PBC won't help DAZN hurt their business

DiBella finally admitted he was let go from PBC for trying to use Wilder to leverage a deal for DiBella promotions with DAZN. Skipper admitted they went behind Haymon's & Finkell's back to try and steal Wilder and got read the riot act by Finkell & Haymon.

“In retrospect, I was too brash going in there without creating the relationships I needed to create with the people who advised Deontay Wilder. I have now worked to do that. It has to do with going back to the education I needed before getting into boxing ?When we left that (Wilder) meeting, I knew we messed up and that we weren’t going to be successful.

“We were impatient, and after having some early success, we wanted to move quickly. Now I understand that I’ve got to work relationships, work within a framework and understand other peoples?self-interests and needs as well ?If I had to do it again, I’d have gone in and said, ‘I’m playing the long game.?I’m playing the long game with Canelo and GGG, too.?
Skipper didn't know Finkell but he knew Haymon from his days at ESPN when PBC was doing the time buys. Skipper has always thought he was smarter than Haymon. Even when he was proven wrong about the time buys

Top TV Execs on Al Haymon's PBC Business Plan

A private media session recently took place with Mark Lazarus, Sean McManus, John Skipper, and Eric Shanks, the Heads of Sports from CBS, ESPN, Fox, and NBC, discuss the future of broadcast sports in a session moderated by Richard Deitsch, Senior Editor, Sports Illustrated.

During the session, the executives were asked about Al Haymon's Premier Boxing Champions series - which now appear on CBS/Showtime, NBC/NBC Sports, Spike TV and ESPN/ABC via time-buy agreements.

It’s impossible to assess the importance of this deal without also considering the broader landscape, and the way the world changed as a result of Haymon and the PBC.
The fact that ESPN would suddenly show an interest in a sport that it fled a few years ago emanates directly from the ratings that it, Fox, CBS and NBC did from their PBC time-buy shows.
When Haymon gave ESPN some of his top names in his first year out of the gate, the shows garnered audiences of more than 1 million. When the talent fell off in year two, the ratings were cut in half.

“I think the PBC experiment taught us one thing: That like so many other sports, it’s about quality,?Magnus said. “Get good fights, get good games and people watch. It’s no different than college football or ‘Monday Night Football?or the NBA. People will watch good games and good teams, and you’ll have a harder time when the quality is not there.

“I don’t have a bad word to say about [the PBC]. They rekindled our interest in the category because we saw what was possible when you had really good fights on broader platforms.?/b>

We've seen Haymon willing to work with other networks to make the Wilder fight (Fury vs Wilder) but that was gone about the correct way. Arum speaking to Wilder and willing to do a joint deal, not a deal that only helps ESPN. This fight helps PBC/FOX/ESPN/Top Rank. AJ vs. Wilder on DAZN only helps DAZN.

You're a fool if you think PBC is going up give up it's biggest asset without any benefit from it and if this were any other company besides PBC everybody would understand. Even though Crawford's PPV numbers aren't that good and Errol is doing more than double Crawford's numbers you wouldn't expect a Fox only Spence vs Crawford PPV. I know you wouldn't because I've seen people say it over and over again "Why does Crawford have to go to PBC to get the fight" But because it's PBC people switch up.

So you won't see any PBC fighters on DAZN unless it's a purse bid. DAZN already tried to go behind Haymon's back so why should he help them when they weren't trying to work with him? You're crazy if you expect PBC to give DAZN any type of help.

Wilder was running his mouth about being his own boss and wanting to fight AJ for the undisputed HW crown. DiBella and Skipper thought he was telling the truth.

Boxing’s not about the promoter power telling fighters who not to fight it’s about the fighters and getting them the fight that makes them the most money fans want to see . Failed thread .

You've lost your ****ing mind, or maybe it wasnt there in the first place.

Let me tell you something right...and you're not gonna like it, but its hopefully gonna be like ripping off a band aid for you. DAZN will be a success, Eddie Hearn will become (if not already) the best promoter in boxing. I wouldnt be surprised if PBC ends up at DAZN tucked tail in a few years. They are already having huge issues sustaining ppv in the face of biggest names in boxing (-pacquiao) fighting behind a much lower paywall. There regular fox shows are in large doing underwhelming numbers, It's time to accept reality rather than trying to fight it with every bone in your body.

If any poster on NSB was Wilder's promoter they would advise him not to fight a DAZN contracted fighter on DAZN because that would be ******.

None of you, if you were wilder, would allow the other promoter to have influence over the judges, referee and venue, thus giving yourself a lesser chance of winning.

Why are so many posters acting so ****** over this? Every poster that accuses Wilder of ducking shows they lack any common sense. I get that posters hate Haymon and PBC and the Brits are desperate to shield AJ from the embarrassing loss to AJ but that shouldn't make posters just type ******ed gibberish.

Yes, the promoters act in their best interest, not necessarily the best interest of the fighter. Wilder could have been 100+ million up and the undisputed champion by now...it was blocked by those who want to continue making money off his back.

Why only take the narrow, one sided view? Yes he could be the champ. That stated, no promoter that is a professional and doing their job as required would put their fighter in such a an untenable situation as Wilder fighting on DAZN against AJ if the object is winning and becoming undisputed champion.

A lot of posters, especially the Brits, want Wilder (and more to the point Haymon and PBC) to lose so they keep focusing on "taking the $100 million" because they know in doing so Wilder reduces his chances of winning if the fight doesn't end in KO/TKO.

This has nothing to do with boxing. This is a battle over who is going to control the future of sports. Why are ESPN and Fox Sports going to allow DAZN to waltz in and try to build a new monster when ESPN and Fox can just kill it off before it grows?

ESPN and Fox Sports will spend what it takes to make sure DAZN doesn't succeed and if DAZN tries to overpay a top ESPN or Fox Sports star, ESPN and Fox Sports will spend what it takes to keep them. Boxing is just a pawn in a larger battle.
