Does anyone still think the old time heavyweights were too small to be competitive in the modern era?

Relatively small by today's standards but naturally bigger than all of top quality heavies before Liston and they should really now be regarded as cruisers.

Also bigger than Frazier and Holmes.

At cruiser with todays weigh in rules he probably walked around over 210 (at least).

At heavy at around 225 Usyk is a giant compared to.Marciano for example.

He's the exact same size as Muhammad Ali, same height, same reach, same weight.

It would be like saying Muhammad Ali is a small Heavyweight.

      Total nonsense.

Speaking of Muhammad Ali, it is often stated that he never faced a giant HW like the modern guys. I don't really think that is true. While he often did have a weight advantage, he faced the 6'6 Ernie Terrel who was around 212-215 and had a reach of 82 inches. He was pretty much almost the same size as Deontay Wilder. Terrell was a well schooled HW with a good jab and was a champ for about 2 years before he faced Ali.

In that fight he hardly looked like he was that much bigger than Ali. The reason is because Ali fought on his toes, making himself taller and his jab was so extended it made his reach that much more effective.

And yes he was taller when they stood next to eachother.

Second point, Ali fought an ATG HW with an 84 inch reach who also had an ATG jab.

(click link for gif. I dont even know how to post gifs in this new forum)

Demonstrating once again how tall/long he really fought in his prime. No SuperHW would bother him with size/length alone.

He also fought George Foreman who is likely the strongest HW grappler of all time and proved it when he came back in the 90s era and was still pushing everybody around.

If 212 pound Wilder could drop Fury close to a 10 count, I have no reason to believe that 218 pound Liston or 220 pound Foreman couldn't.If Usyk at his size could outbox and hurt Fury I see no reason why Ali wouldn't have.

Usyk is not bigger than Holmes. Both are 6-3 and weight is the same at the same age. Holmes has a longer reach. So there is no way that Usyk can be described as bigger.

And let's just use a visual here: we have this hard punching Chinese giant who can throw exactly two punches a round or so... Can we really imagine Allie getting caught by one of these punches? I know I'm exaggerating but I think the visual stands lol.

LOL can't see that visual I actually like Zhang and think he's dangerous for anybody in the division right now. Ali was just two fast and Zhang would get punished.
