Good point. Tyson was and is much worse. From possibly murdering elderly people(knocking them unconcious on the street to rob them) to raping multiple women, to beating people outside the ring to biting flesh and attempting to break arms for losing fights, to humiliating himself and the sport once again...Anomalocaris likes this.

I believe the first Clay fight was legit. The second one, I believe the punch hurt him and buckled him, the replay shows the force of the shot. What makes it look like a dive is when Liston gets on all fours and then falls back down again on his back with his limbs spread. That looked like a bad acting...

That's what a lot of people don't seem to realize, it's not just the numbers. It's about having the skills along with the size that changes things. These big guys Louis fought for example were so sluggish and uncoordinated, they couldn't even absorb and apply the amazing technique that boxing gyms were...Bronson66 likes this.

Speaking of Muhammad Ali, it is often stated that he never faced a giant HW like the modern guys. I don't really think that is true. While he often did have a weight advantage, he faced the 6'6 Ernie Terrel who was around 212-215 and had a reach of 82 inches. He was pretty much almost the same size...Last edited by BKM-; 01-12-2025, 04:57 PM.Biledriver likes this.

Arthur Abraham against the african Miranda? Miranda was a hard puncher too, I never got that gif out of my head where they were in a clinch and Miranda head clashed on Abraham's severely swollen jaw and he stepped back in severe pain....billeau2 likes this.

The toughest moments to get back up for the next round
There have been many brutal fights where these guys later on said that they felt they were close to death. Name some fights where you believe it would have been extremely hard to get back up to fight in the next round(whether the fight continued or was stopped).
Famous fights like Ali-Frazier...Mr Mitts likes this.

In terms of resume he has the argument to be #1 HW ever(I have him at 2 behind Ali). In terms of Head to Head matchups you can argue he's #1 as well. He fought in the second best, some would say best ever HW era and beat everyone he could beat(unless they ran away like Bowe and a slightly younger Tyson)....Mike_b likes this.

To answer the question, Liston was very gifted and a genetic freak, on top of that a very skilled boxer too. A very long sledgehammer left jab, deadly hooks and uppercuts on the inside. Could fight in and out, go on the offense and also counter punch. Thrives in a fight from the outside with his crazy...

What a coincidence Apples, the one guy from the old era you don't hold in high regard is the guy who was massive in his own era and so massive that his dimensions still make him a very large man(giant skull, absolutely gigantic fists and arm length) even today. Such a typical, predictable post....Bronson66 likes this.

You listed Patterson as one of the champs who would beat Young, so he must be pretty great....
