Watch the end of the 1st round and look at how slow Roy looks even when Calzaghe is wide open.

I'm not quite sure what boxing politics was going on at the time or what Money was offered.
It is interesting. I would have liked to see that fight.
Do you know what the offers were?
And of course with Calzaghe: what was the Offer from Calzaghe's camp?
And this is a bit different since Joe was at 168 and Roy at 175...so keep that in mind.

Didn't you know? Anyone who beats Roy is in their prime, doesn't matter that they're all in their mid to late 30s.
You beat Roy, you're in your prime!

No. I have to give Calzaghe the benefit of the doubt on this one. If Roy had wanted to fight Calzaghe way back when, he could have made that fight. HE'S the one that waited for the last ditch pay check on a prayer of a win.

No. It's not the same thing at all. First of all Calzaghe is only 3 years younger than Jones. So now you have to consider the issue as to whether or not longevity is an element of true greatness. Surely it is, and Calzaghe wins again. However, if you're disposed to disagree, then one is forced to consider how a prime Calzaghe would have handled a prime Roy. There is absolutely no reason to think that Calzaghe, who in his prime was a lightening fast mongoose of a fighter, could not just as easily have disposed of a prime Roy Jones, Jr. IN the end, "styles make fights." And, Roy simply could not handle Calzaghe's style. NOBODY ever has.
Comparing this version of Roy Jones to the Peak version is like comparing Elizabeth Taylor in Cleopatra to the one that walks around with the same name now.
Do you really think Ali wouldn't have put up a better fight against Berbick and Holmes had he been at his peak?
Have you seen Holyfield?
Do you think he would have lost to Toney in his prime...especially by KO?
Roy couldn't handle his age/shotness {nice word} more than Joe's speed and style.
Tarver and Glen are not fast fighters and he couln't handle them.
He destroyed his body...it was shot.

there is some absolute fools in this thread Jones would of beaten Calzaghe clearly in his prime albeit a competitive fight but still a clear decision for Jones
the guys who think its fair to base last nights performace to a PRIME Jones are just plain ******

Some fighters are not as good technically and fundamentally as others, but there a lot more athletic with much better speed. This advantage in athletic ability and speed only last for so long. Maybe 20 years old until 30 years old. A fighter who has always relied on his fundamentals and technique will be the better older fighter. Bottom line is what counts anyway is how good were you at your peak. Bernard Hopkins is a better older fighter than Roy, but what happen at there peak? This version of Hopkins would dominate this version of Roy, but the bottom line is what happen when both were young.
Calzaghe was badly hurt by a Roy Jones punch that didnt even land cleanly. Imagine if thats 1994-1997 Roy with a lot more snap in his punch.

Based on what? You do realize that Joe would be in his prime as well don't you?
If this fight happens 7-10 years ago, Joe gains some speed and his reflexes as well.
But what are you basing a Jones victory on, the knockdown in the first round?
Well, based on your comments, I know it couldn't be that.
