Yes, Jeffries did say he would NEVER defend against a black man. Thank you for finally admitting that.

Jeffries was a bit of a rube. I think he said things that were said... I have a hard time imagining that Jeffries had a strong sense of conviction regarding the color line. I just have a hard time with people speaking about things they obviously have no real experience with. London, regardless of whether one agreed, or disagreed with him, spent time in areas with a lot of different cultures, what was then called "races." What did Jeffries know of such individuals? Alas it is just an opinion.

He may very well have parroted these things. But the fact remains that he was not and never did give a title shot to a fighter of color. Whether he truly believed in superiority/inferiority of the races is irrelevant in my opinion.

If George was around in Jeffries day I believe his style would adapt well and maybe do even better. Open mitts, small gloves - George is gonna be a menace to anyone. He would grapple and manipulate damn near anyone and fought like a bare knuckles even in the 70’s - his style is not that far removed and didn’t change until the attached glove era (90s) and the fact that he had slowed down.

What fighters say and what they do changes does it not? I view it as anytime a fighter fights for money and is champion, the title is on the line. And by the way Jeffries picked up the linear British championship from Peter Jackson. And defended his lineal world title vs. Johnson.

                  So much for the quote.

Sullivan, Corbett, Jeffries, Tunney all said they would never defended their titles against a black man. None did. So what they said is what they did. It didn't change in fact until James Braddock with the lone exception of Tommy Burns.

                      THE REAL NINJA.

With only 21 fights and lack of opponents it's hard to judge Jeff . What would he have been if he was fighting Sam Langford, Harry Wills, Joe Jeannette, i know they all came a little after but you know what i'm saying. I will have to go with Foreman
Jeffries started boxing ( his own words on film ) in 1893. Many of his early fights are unrecorded. Some are referenced like the KO's over Martin and Childs.

He likey had 10+ fights that are unrecorded.
