Either fighter going up against each other with rival PPVs on the same night will suffer. I don't know why people think Cotto vs Alvarez is guaranteed big numbers. Heck Cotto vs Margs II had a bigger angle and story behind it and did maybe 500K. If they go head to head with PPVs i'd expect both shows to probably generate that same 500K

why are people continuing to assume Mexicans drive PPV sales in the US? Middle and upper middle class whites drive ppv sales. SO the question becomes who would they support on that date-Floyd or Canelo. I think its clear it Floyd.
As for the MGM and Vegas-no offense to Canelo-but Floyd fighting on those dates are the 2 biggest weekends for the whole Vegas community. If Canelo can show he can match or exceed Floyd-he will get the dates. It was significant that the high rollers/gamblers didn't gravitate toward the Maidana 2 fight.
Otherwise it will be Floyd until he can no longer generate the money he does.

Americans should want to see an American fight.
So these so called middle class and upper class fans what would they rather see, bare in mind these are probably fans of the sport who enjoy entertainment...
So they have Canelo Vs Cotto in the one corner
Then they have Mayweather Vs (Flat footed plodder) in the other corner
Hmmm choices, lol do they pay to see what they know will happen or do they pay to see an awesome atmosphere clash of Puerto Rican Vs Mexican fighters the biggest rivalry in boxing?
It's a no brainer, Floyd will have some idiots who want to spend $69.99 to be bored to death then some smart people who will pay the lower price of PPV to watch an absolute war and likely a great undercard.
Here take this

On top of everything that's already been said, if Floyd doesn't face Pacquiao and chooses another opponent, expect many to BOYCOTT his next fight.
And his numbers will hurt even more.

Is Cotto vs Canelo a good fight, yes it sure is. Casual fans of ALL RACES push ppvs. All casual fans know about Cotto and Canelo is that they both lost to Floyd and Manny. They know Floyd whooped Canelo and clearly beat Cotto. They also know Manny beat the brakes off Cotto. So with that knowledge tell me why more casual fans who don't follow boxing or know the details of quality fights why they would choose 2 losers over watching Floyd fight?
Hardcore fans know that Floyd vs Khan is not a better fight than Cotto vs Canelo but hardcore fans aren't the buyers that push ppv #s real high either.
Goes down to both sides are taking a huge risk with either fight for the money involved.
Cotto vs Martinez was supposed to be a big fight and flopped hard with 300K in ppv buys. Canelo supposed to be this big mexican star vs Lara does 300K. I'll give Canelo some leeway with Lara being unknown to most fans. But that goes back to the point about casual fans not knowing quality fights. Lara vs Canelo was a good quality fight and only hardcore fans bought that fight.
Cotto vs Canelo does 750K tops which is a great number truthfully. Floyd vs Khan might do 750 here in america and possibly do the same in the UK. That would be a win for Floyd and showtime.
Yall still don't get it though nobody is going to be forced to do a damn thing. Floyd vs Manny ain't going to f*@cking happen for whatever reasons anybody wants to believe.
Yes I want to see Floyd vs Manny but the fight is not going to happen.
