Holy thread necromancy, Bartender! While Jeffries could have very well had a good enough chin to take Foreman's big shots, he was nowhere near elusive enough to keep from taking too many of them: Those big shots add up! Nor could he take a step back and work his jab from the outside when hurt to let his head clear. At the same time while Jeffries had power to spare, so did Frazier. I'm not sure that's going to be enough to hurt Foreman often enough to win. Foreman by ref stoppage in the mid-rounds.

Is that why Jeffries ducked him, and than after they fought admitted he could have never beaten Johnson?

Who wins in a 15 round clash?

If someone else has already done this....sorry.

Jeffries' defense is underrated and he is shown sliping and ducking on film. His chin is best judged as excellent using the benchmark of light 4-6 ounce gloves & no mouth guard, tested by direct hits of Fitzsimmons and Sharkey.

Foreman is in trouble if it goes past five rounds. Jeff would be fighting around 230 today.

Jeffries never weighed 330lbs ,and he was down to227 lbs 6 months before the fight.
After 24 fights Jeffries finished with a 3 times broken nose, scar tissue above and below both eyes, and a cauliflower left ear.
How good can his defence have been?
Johnson76 fights ,retired virtually unmarked.so did Fitzsimmons 78 fights, both men fought into old age.

Jeffries exclusively fought much smaller men. The heavyweight power of Fitzsimmons and Sharkey are not comparable to George Foreman who would be bigger than Jeff and harder punching than anyone he ever fought by far. It's a good fight as Jeffries is tough, but I think Foreman would stop him in 5 or 6.

Mostly Foreman did too. Jeffries fought 8 opponents near ( + or - 5 pounds ) or above 200 pounds. No doubt Foreman was a special puncher, but he hit with moden gloves ( much heavier ) and as a fighter you should know the old 4 to 6 ounce gloves are harder to take a hit form.

Is it harder to take blows from Fitz with 4-6 ounces or from Foreman with more padded gloves from 12 ounces? And they did not have shock absorbing mouth guards when Jefferies fought. When you factor everying in, I say the hitting power of the two is comparable.

Their fighting weights of Jeffries and Foreman shape are roughly the same.

Foreman was gassed in 4 rounds from Lyle and under 6 from Ali. Stamina is very under rated in boxing and Jeffries could fight hard and move well for 2o+ rounds. Formean could do about 5 rounds of hard fighting and moving.

                It is a good fight.

I agree it's a good fight. I also agree that if Jeffries makes it past 5 it's favors him. But getting hit by a 170lb fitzsimmons and a 215lb Foreman in 4oz gloves are two vastly different thing. Jeff never fought anyone near as strong as Foreman. He was manhandled by Johnson in the clinch. I know he was out for 6 years, but that strength doesn't leave like your reflexes do. In a fantasy fights no one can say for sure the outcome, but I'd still favor George. Jeffries is game though, so I wouldn't count him out.

                    - - Jeff a higher order hvywt whose career consisted of 30-40% black fighters, a few that he knocked out who knocked out or otherwise beat JJ.

Jeff was set to fight JJ, but JJ got whooped by Marvin Hart where JJ was warned for stalling the whole of the fight. Marv won the hvy title over Jack Root that Jeffries sanctioned as the vacant title...yer welcome...

Jeff ducked jack saying he would never defend against a colored man. And Jeffries had no authority to "sanction" anything.
