Jack Sharkey has 13 kos in 53 fights. I don't have to review the tape ,I was ringside for the fight.

Pop! LOL. Dunn was KOd 11 times out of his 12 losses in a mere 55 fights. He was the poster boy for a chinless boxer, lad. The guy was KOd exactly 20% of the time he stepped into a ring!!!!! On average every 5 fights he was stopped. Five out of 11 times that he was stopped he gnawed canvas and was fully counted out!!!! What a chin.

And of Jimmy's 12 stoppages only two are listed as actual KOs, the others as TKO. Dunn is the only fighter he stopped who even rates good enough to have a record listed on boxrec!! I am willing to bet without looking that ol' Jimmy scored fewer than 10 KDs his entire career. Some of his stoppages occurred at venues like The Catholic Youth Center in Scranton Pa. against Bobby Lloyd, and a Frank Crane arena in Nanaimo, British Columbia against one nobody by the name of Gordon Racette. Guaranteed low quality opponents and chins on all Jimmy's stoppages.

I think I hear a mesmerized youth's eyes talking through an old man's brain about a very exciting event for him. Been there, done that. Whatever Young did to Dunn, 10 others did as well, in only 55 outings for the lad. Dunn had a scandalously weak chin and Young had notoriously poor power. It might be time for the boy in you just to give that up, laddie.

He was what I would call an opportunistic puncher. If he really saw an opportunity he could throw an occasional hard shot, or two.

That is very interesting about Sharkey! Another guy who occasionally gets lauded from the past.

You can add on 4 more stoppages by DQ. We know Wills was on his way down in '26 when he deliberately fouled his way out of the fight.

We (I) can't speak to the other three DQs. But too often fighters don't get credit for a stoppage because of fight circumstances, usually interference from seconds or a referee.

Does Holyfield get credit for a second stoppage of Tyson in the ear bite fight? No, but we all know, Tyson never makes it to the 12th round of that fight if it had continued.

Sharkey has four more stoppages by DQ. If they were stoppages interfered with, then he has 17 stoppages in 39 wins. A touch more respectable sounding than saying 13 stoppages in 50 fights.

By saying he had pop ,I meant, you couldn't just ignore his shots.

I always thought Young was robbed against Ali. An Ali who was well past him prime. Young lost to much lesser fighters than Liston. He also took punches from HWs who could hit just as hard (Foreman and Lyle). He was a resilient fighter who relied on defense and footwork. I would still favor Liston to win, especially in a ring smaller than 20 feet.

                    I love Jimmy Young.

I always say he's "boxing's biggest victim", because the sport cheated nobody more, because he should've been a HOF fighter with millions of dollars & fans, instead of a journeyman.

That being said, the peak version of Liston in the late '50s eventually catches him and folds him with a debilitating body shot.

LOL. I have a bad heart, don't scare me that way, grandpa. My mistake on Dunn. Makes the point perfectly though. Finding the great Gardener's record is like looking for a needle in a stack of needles. Translation: he was a nobody.

You are really something to say I got personal on a forum where people call each other names by the hour. I didn't, as anyone who reads the post can easily see. You dish it out hard, gramps, but can't take anything at all, can you? I see you dish it out daily. What I pointed out was fair and honest. If you don't like it, get your Z war bonnet on. I feel you itching to call someone names. Oh, I know, I know, anything to distract from a point you have already lost. I used your own method on you. When I know I am wrong I just admit it. It is up to you how much you want to expose your inner hatred to this small world here. I feel your need. Go ahead, expose. I (not we) want to see how far you will take this silly defense of Young's punching power. It should be a good show.
