Greater fighter: Fury or Andre Ward?

Wlad is probably a top 10 HW all-time...and out of nowhere, Fury dethroned him on his home soil/away.
Wilder is one of the most dangerous punchers ever in the HW division...Fury took him on, on Wilder's home soil, and outboxed him for periods while he was still coming back from a long layoff...he (rightfully on my card) received a draw.
In fight 2, Fury dominated and stopped Wilder, again on Wilder's home soil...again winning in an unbelievable fashion that no one really thought was possible.
One could argue that Ward did similar in that regard in his career, vs Kov in fight 2...but that fight just had too many asterisks for me...hard to really give much credit there, especially after fight 1, where he really had no business winning the fight.
The only top level win I have on my card for Ward was a 7-5 win over Froch, which was rather uninspiring for me as well...in all his other big fights, I either thought he lost, or very possibly could have been DQd...even against Bika and Barrera, he had really tough close fights on my card...but due to fighting at home, he gets 10-2 11-1 type cards in 7-5 type fights.
Ward was a tough smart fighter...and as another poster said, he was a very good spoiler in there...I think he struggled to win clear rounds vs good opponents, but at the same time, it was hard to get clear rounds against him as well, as he was good at getting dirty and spoiling rounds.
I do feel that if he fought in more neutral environments, he would have a much different W/L/D record, and would then be viewed differently as a fighter...for Fury, he achieved two great wins in sensational fashion...one against an ATG HW where many gave him no shot...and the other against an ATG puncher at HW, and most really did not think he could bully him and stop him in 7 rounds, as he did.
Most feel Fury in his 3 big fights, should be 3-0...I have him at 2-0-1.
I'm not sure what most feel Ward should be in his big fights...he certainly has had more fights vs other top level fighters, I think most would agree on that...but Bika and Barrera were both very close fights on my card...he easily could have been DQd or docked points vs Kessler or Kov 2...and he lost vs Kov 1 on my card (and hopefully anyone else's)...I had him beating Froch 7-5...in those 6 fights vs Bika Barrera Kessler Kov 1 Kov 2 and Froch I would probably have him 3-2-1, at best.
I just think he was very fortunate to fight all of his fights at home, many of them in his own backyard...as far as skills go, he wasn't really that exceptional...though to be fair, I feel Fury is a bit overrated 'skills' wise too...he definitely uses his size to a huge advantage...and he also uses his mind very well, and has great heart as well.
But he has 2 no doubt about wins vs great fighters (yes Wilder qualifies there, let's see who the next guy is to go 12 rounds with him or stop him) and many think 3...Ward's win over Froch isn't as impressive as any of those 3 performances from Fury imo...and that is Ward's best one for me...and then he has some mixed results for me/a lot of help in a lot of his other fights, a couple of them just against 'good' fighters.Last edited by Boxing_1013; 03-19-2020, 01:09 PM.

When we talk about fighters that showed that level of domination we are talking about Jones, Mayweather. Do you realize that when a fight off for the light middle weight championship was had, Ward was not picked to win? Yet he did not just win...he dominated the competition.
And this BS about Ward staying in Oakland really chafes my @33 Everybody 5hits on Oakland, it needed someone like Ward to represent. And Oakland is not siberia!! Not only does it have hotels, venues for everything that Vegas does, but its an hour flight from Vegas.
Why in fvk's name does Vegas get to have every venue? If you can go to Vegas for a fight, you can go to Oakland. Judah can fight in Brooklyn, but Ward wanting to fight an hour away from Vegas is such an inconvenience? Oakland could use the money trust me.
And I am convinced that a lot of people who tout Ward and that dominance you mention, never really watched some of his fights...anyone who says he dominated Bika or Barrera, I mean I just don't know what people were watching...I assume most who say that, didn't watch...because I refuse to believe that objective people who know boxing could say he dominated those fights...that would be like saying GGG dominated Derevy lol.

Fury beat an old Wlad and Wilder...he’s gotta do a lot more to reach Ward

I’d go Ward resume (depth mainly) and ability but Fury in terms of accomplishments as a pro at least.
I’d say Fury has better individual wins so we agree on that at least.
Good question from the OP tbf...
I'd love a breakdown.
Not that anyone suspects you of taking out of your ass or nothing....

And what that exactly means really crystalizes when you consider his biggest career "win" came from a punch to the balls.
Ward is no Fury. Not even close.
It's ridiculous to make the comparison.

It’s not like ward was putting masterclasses out there lol. His best wins were actually awful to watch. Yes he always find ways to grind it out but they’re really awful and uninspiring wins. So if his few fans are still wondering why he never reach superstardom or only got 1 ppv fight or why he doesn’t get the recognition albeit achieving a lot, all they gotta do is pick any of his semi big fight and watch it. A lot of 7-5 fights, he arguably lost against Kovalev I... and huge asterisk in the II as it was a low blow that ended it. Only one he completely dominated was a drain dawson at 168.
