They key demographic is Adults 18-49 and PBC was second behind the basketball game that night.

It would also require a SIGNIFICANT reduction in purses to make it viable. Maybe not quite as low as the ESPN Firday Night Fights type budgets, but definitely not shows with purse totals into 7 figures......

They are in the same area roughly as the UFC, which also btw gets beat by re-runs etc, they do however have better demo's than PBC which is important. The FS1 number has only been done twice for the UFC and that was on the back of heavy NFL promotion.

The problem with the PBC besides their crazy financing, is that there is no real promoter to build up shows and Haymon is still struggling to make marquee fights that would get better ratings.
FOX gave PBC tons of free ads including during FOX NFL playoff games which did like 36.7 rating. PBC got a huge push by FOX that's not why the ratings stink people knew about the fight just either weren't interested in the match up or don't care about PBC. And the UFC card aired after prime time 10pm-1am on basic cable not PRIMETIME on a Saturday on FOX. FS1 is only in about 70% of homes and most people have no clue what channel it's on. No way UFC on FS1 should be doing higher ratings then PBC's arguable best fighter and it's FOX debut of PBC. That's not a good sign to start on FOX. NBC debuted with 33% higher ratings and saw each card go down from there. Matter fact all the PBC cards on other networks from the first half of last year went down compared to the second half. Will be interesting to see if the trend continues on FOX they are already off to a bad start to the point you got fans comparing these ratings to FOX rerun of shows to try and make it see like they did well.

And as you mentioned the problem is PBC cards are "super expensive" to air and will actually be MORE expensive if he makes more competive fights which is why Thurman vs Porter and Jacobs vs Quillin were shipped to Showtime and can not be made under the PBC Banner. If you pay guys like Lara 1mil even though they have no fanbase to fight tomato cans how much you think it will cost to pay for 2 top guys in the Haymon stable to fight each other?

Wouldn't you expect purses to be high if you have top fighters in with each other?

Ghost got $1.2 mil and Danny $1.5 mil. I think that was fair.

the question wasnt "was it fair?". The question was "is it sustainable on "free tv" absent a time buy?", and the answer is no.

That's my point. The top fighters will go back to the premium networks rather than take the money needed to make free tv broadcasts profitable. If they were out of the business, then the purses could drop. But as long as they're around the purses need to be at that level.

I'm not upset and by the numbers it drew not many watched the fight. These are bad ratings for Primetime network show. Events and programs that draw these type of ratings get canceled on FOX. Only reason this won't is because PBC is paying them. PBC is losing money not FOX they get paid regardless. But when the money runs out for PBC investors no chance FOX will phony up and pay for this. A product that is super expensive and draws crap ratings losing millions each time out.

Ahh yes...the bitter ones. Whining about how PBC #'s and how it's going to fail.

They can barely hide the fact that they're hoping it fails. Keep praying for it's demise, "boxing fans." We see you

Well its sustainable as long as you have the resources.

Posters want better fights on PBC/SHO/NBC/ESPN-they want to see the best facing the best. For that to happen, you are going to have to pay more money, regardless of network affiliation. You say this isn't sustainable but also complain that the "sustainable" cards (mismatches with one high paying name and an opponent making peanuts) suck (which is fair criticism of some cards).

WHat is the happy medium between the 2?

They were ok none were great fights or great matchups so I spent most of the day bouncing back and forth between this and the Cavs game. It's just hilarious seeing the Haymon fanboys come up with new excuse after new excuse every time the PBC ratings come out and they tank. Either it bombed because it went head to head with NFL, head to head with Golf, one loser in particular actually blamed a PBC flop because it went head to head with WNBA on ESPN2 lol At what point do people open their eyes and say the ratings are just bad because the product is bad? We have about a year sample and PBC has been on just about every channel you can think of and still the ratings aren't good on any of the channels.
