so IMO cotto needs huge wins to prove himself, I'd say it he beats canelo and GGG and possibly defend his title with a top MW then yes I can see a chance possibly
I honestly believe that when a fighter reaches a point in his career where he is "satisfied" and no longer believes that he has anything left to prove in the sport,he should just retire. What's going on here is cotto living off of things that he did years ago,and using his veteran status to try and bully newer fighters. The honest fact of the matter is that cotto gets stopped by both GGG,and canelo, and he will use every advantage he's got (catch weight, fight at Madison square gardens, demand larger split of the purse) in order to make the fights more difficult to happen. Meanwhile he's fighting the guy that GGG demolished inside of 3 rounds, and he's acting like if bringing the guy down to a catchwieght, while being the lineal champ is perfectly normal. If you don't want to test yourself anymore, just vacate the belt and retire.
I agree with every word and I couldn't have said it better myself. GGG and Canelo, both stop Cotto. He's just milking his champion status. Nobody can take away what he's done, but let's be real. He doesn't wanna fight those two.
That is not the mentality of a champion. Of you are the best or claim to be, you take the biggest challenge. Cotto is a paper champion at middleweight.

Canelo ain't stopping Cotto.
If anything he gets stopped.
Cotto gave Floyd all he could handle, while Canelo got whitewashed.
Collazo was shot, and Alexander is not even currently ranked in the top 10.
Brook and Thurman are both more deserving than Khan.
Also, Brook and Thurman were not decapitated by Danny Garcia.
Also, neither of those guys ducked Kell Brook, like Amir Khan did
But, keep fighting the good fight
Had to think which guys you were referring to and when but I think I've managed to figure it out. Berto was 1-1 since Ortiz fight then he lost to Guerrero and Guerrero gets a shot at Mayweather. As for Maidana he fought a overhyped guy coming up in weight who arguably lost to Malignaggi and dropped down in weight after Maidana battered him.
Of course Brook and Thurman is more deserving of Mayweather. I was trying to make the point that Mayweather can fight whoever he wants relevant or not. Just like when he made a poll between Khan and Maidana (that's because he was relevant!).

There is too many factors in this match up such as style make fight, weight advantage to Canelo depending which weight class they fight in, Canelo improved since Mayweather loss etc.
Honestly I am sure this Cotto vs Canelo match up gets made this year. I think most boxing expertise going to pick Canelo and that also depends on how Cotto does against Geale.
You must be unaware talks of Golovkin and Froch. That's a massive step up for Golovkin than anyone he faced before.
Don't you get the point, Golovkin wants to unify all belts. Cotto should vacate or fight him. What makes Cotto more attractive is his name and belt to boot. he's almost like 'mayweather, chavez jr and canelo' of this division, the money fight.
those two clowns GGG and Canelo need to fight each other, their record is full of pathetic match-ups and opponents, at least Canelo has fought and lost against TBE and Lara...let those guys fight each other and let Cotto defend his title against some credible opponents like Kid Chocolate or Andy Lee, these two little hype jobs need to win against credible opponents not Macklin or Alfonso Gomez for crying out loud, it's crazy how much disrespect Cotto is getting from these people that call themselves 'boxing fans'.........i ain't even rican or a cotto fan

Cotto gave Floyd a tough fight but he wasn't able to hurt Floyd with any of the flush left hooks he landed and Floyd fought Cotto completely differently than Canelo cuz he gave Canelo's speed and power much more respect than Cotto. He actually knew he could stay in the pocket longer and give and take a little bit to make the Cotto fight more exciting where as Canelo was trying to take his head off with everything but he kept missing cuz Floyd was too slick and fast.
And there was no white wash in that Canelo fight, Canelo was 23 and boxed with the best boxer in the world and I thought he still pulled off 4 rounds which is impressive and something important to take away from that fight even tho the strategy was ******. Where as Cotto got the fight he wanted from Floyd but only won 3 rounds imo
