They aren't blameless, but Freddie does this **** constantly, it's something you now expect any time a Roach trained fighter faces a tough fight.

      Here's Cotto's own words:

Even if the money could have been worked out, Cotto said the weight was a major issue.

For the 2009 bout he had agreed to go down to 145 pounds, two less than the welterweight limit, and said it took its toll. If he had taken the rematch at 150, it would mean dropping 4 pounds below the junior middleweight limit, which is where Cotto has fought his four bouts since his loss to Pacquiao.

"If he wants a big name and wants to fight the best, no catchweight," Cotto said of Pacquiao. "Making catchweights is easy for them. They make the other guy have trouble making weight and they take advantage of that. I wasn't going to do that again. I am 154 pounds. I am not going to fight at a catchweight and make myself weak."

He said it'd have to be close to 154lbs so whats the big deal...
Catchweight at 155/156lbs GGG would gladly do this to fight such a big name like Cotto and it'd raise his profile , I'm happy with this albeit Its a big unfair to defend your 160lbs belt at CW with GGG but not for Martinez it definitely does sound like Cotto is shook.

If GGG accepts, then that's on him, but why is Roach always proposing a catchweight? Even Pacquiao vs. Algeri is at a catchweight! Damn, do you really need a catchweight to fight Algeri?

A catchweight fight here makes all kinds of sense, The size gulf is massive here after all! GGG says he would fight at 154 for Miguel or Floyd and he wouldn't even have to go that low. HOWEVER where my problem lies is when titles are on the line at a limit less than the divisions limit - are u the middleweight champ or not!? Its BS and Cotto knows it, remember Pacquaio.... No coincidence Roach was in Mannys corner for that either!

The truth is Cotto is a great fighter but he doesn't belong at middleweight despite his great win there over Sergio, he was a small WW! Id like to see him drop down and face Alvarez, then guys coming up like Bradley, Maidana ect or a Mayweather rematch.... BUT if he is gonna stay at MW then he should fight Golovkin and without any special weight stipulations.

If you feel you can't defend your middleweight belt within the limits of the division, then you're not really the middleweight champion and should vacate the title immediately.

He should just agree to the ridiculous 155 catchweight or whatever it will be, then just aim to weigh in at the normal 159 or whatever he usually is. Be like "OH darn it" then take his head off regardless of whether the titles are on the line.

The lineal title has been belittled with Martinez holding it hostage for so long, now a Jr Middleweight in Cotto is planning to do the same, so why try to win it? Beating him senseless on a huge stage will do so much more than killing yourself to win a paper championship.

The main thing I don't like is a guy claiming to be the middleweight champion without ever actually fighting at 160. He's either the 160 champ or he isn't

I agree 100%! My problem is, why is cotto always the one fighting the toughest opponents & Mayweather get to skate by. Why the double standard? I know Money is the best now, but he always gets a pass. cotto, fights everyone!
