Great post. With that being said, what did Canelo do? There's so much burden on Lara (the champion, despite titles not being on the line because Canelo doesn't want to make weight) to do more -- why is this? Because he's lesser known? Lesser beloved in the sport? Because he talked trash in interviews and on social media? Because he has a mohawk?

How come Canelo can do less in the ring, but Lara has to do more?

Seen a few of Hey Harolds lol. He preaches a good word and has overall been consistent. Although there have been times I've seen his unofficial card and cringed. His Rigo vs Donaire score was spot on.
As you say subjectivity is a huge player in scoring fights, yet a balanced combination of the four main criteria would be ideal.

Here's a little "he said" for ya, from a thread article posted by Boxingscene a few moments ago. Glen Tapia on what happens if Kirkland fights Alvarez:

"It depends on which Kirkland shows up. I thought Lara probably beat Canelo the other night, but you can't fight the way Lara fought and expect to impress the judges. And you have an obligation to the fans, too. That's what I think about when I go into the ring, to put on a show for the people who bought the tickets."

        This kid gets it.

You know what was so great about that fight, he stopped showing his scorecard after the 6th, I think it was. And even those judges tried to give Donaire as many rounds as they could. I for sure thought they were going to find a way to jip Rigo, despite it being a complete shutout.

Please, don't ask me that question again. I've -- we've -- answered it several times already. You're being obstinate.

LOL. Had to pull my flowmo badge on his ass to put him in check. They call me a flowmo every other day of the year so I'm allowed to.

Indeed. But, as Harold states, in reality it doesn't work that way. Ring generalship and defensive skill are way down in order of importance when it comes to scoring pro fights. It's all about clean punches landed. I'm cool with that, actually. What gets me is the "effective aggression" aspect. That one is always a point of contention. Some guys swear you're fulfilling that criteria simply by moving forward and swinging. Drives me nuts.

And that's great for Tapia -- but in the long run, well, he may not have a long run with that mindset. I completely understand where he's coming from and what you guys are saying... but to sit there and say that Lara has to do more is wrong, outright.

Fans aren't risking their lives. Fans don't care about the fighter after their career is over and if they do, certainly not enough to give them any help financially, etc. That's where the judges are supposed to come in and play their part -- judge the fight for what is actually occurring, not judging for entertainment value.

I remember. The official cards were pathetic. If nonito would have won at least 2 more rounds, we are talking about a controversial loss for Rigo.

It's sad that in boxing, specifically to scoring fights, judges cater to casuals.
