But, the way boxing works, when you're fighting a cash cow who gets the top billing, you have to win 9 rounds just for a shot at a split decision victory. It's not fair but that's the way it is. Lara now has 4 controversial losses/draws. When will he learn that landing 5 punches and running away to protect your lead won't win you a professional prize fight? Especially against the money guy.
I hope you are joking about the 5 shots... lol. But I get your overall point.

Lara SHOULD have done more and grasped opportunity by the neck better but he didn't.

Does that mean he definitively lost the fight- NO. Can you make an argument for a draw.....MAYBE but that's as far as it goes. There is NO way Canelo won this fight. Canelo had great moments to the body and obviously landed that big uppercut that caused the cut on Lara. Like I said in a different thread, we taint our judging with the need for excitement. Lara's defense and ability to make Canelo miss is severely overshadowed and understated by talks of inactivity. It's still scoring criteria. Ring generalship.

In the end we for the most part on NSB are good at analyzing fights round by round as it should be. I had it 115-113 for Lara, and after a second view had it 116-112. Canelo did not and should have not won this fight. But like you said earlier, he is the money man.

And they lost, in part, because of this failure.
You shouldn't be disappointed in Lara's performance and claiming he needed to do more... not saying you should be sour g****s either, but it wouldn't hurt to ask more questions, like why didn't canelo throw more punches and try to make it a dog fight like Angulo did? How come he just followed Lara around instead of just posting up in a corner or just standing in the middle of the ring to make Lara earn his?

That would be a ton better than just saying, "well, Lara talked a lot and he needed to do more" while simultaneously, canelo did the same, but less -- on both accounts.

And another thing to consider is effective aggression.

On one hand you can say, Canelo was the aggressor but he was missing. He wasn't effective.

But from the other point of view, you can say, Canelos body shots were bothering Lara. They forced him to move and made him reluctant to engage.

I'm with the first train of thought but Lara opened the door for the second statement from not doing enough.

How can you have any sympathy for him?

Yeah he got cut but so what? He fought p-will with a golf ball on his forehead and came back from 2 kds to finish off Angulo.
Because he put on a boxing display and got jipped. Plain and simple.

I don't know about jipped. This was more like driving through the most dangerous neighborhood in a Rolls Royce with $10,000 cash and the windows down at 3am. You're setting yourself up for a robbery basically.

Yeah you got robbed but you played a role in your own robbery.

But Lara took body shots from Angulo and slowed down...? Has it crossed anyone's mind that canelo's body punching may not have had much of an effect. Body shots are meant to slow down the opponent, but apparently, Usain Bolt couldn't catch Lara by the final bell.

Haha, nice analogy. Too exaggerated in this case, but I see where you're coming from about the fight. We just don't agree and it seems to be based on politic -- where you think there's a grey area, I think it wasn't close enough at all to have such close scorecards.

We agree. I just accept the politics and you want to fight against them.

Great, Lara talked trash first and Canelo talked trash second, astute observation.
What? Bro, honestly, I wanted to stop reading right there at the bold. But, out of respect, I continued.

Here are some more astute observations: Lara and his team talked mad trash on social media for a long time in order to get Canelo to fight him. Then, Landy shows up at Saul's press conference and sheepishly asks Alvarez, like a shy teenager, for a fight. It...was...embarrassing. Canelo handled it like he was the 31 year old and Lara was the 23 year old. Okay, so shortly thereafter, Alvarez agrees to give this (usually, but not always) boring fighter a shot at the big-time. What does Lara do? He immediately starts talking ish. As if to say, "Nya, nya, nya, nya, nya, I got what I wanted. Now I can go back to talking smack!"

You think Canelo didn't have a right to say he would knock Lara the fuck out? And don't you think Lara should've backed his trash talk with a little bit more than a ten punches above than Alvarez landed, like it was the damn Olympics?

Canelo is more than willing to trade only if he's getting the better of it. He rarely even engaged against Angulo -- opting to move around most the night. He was hesitant to let his hands go because Lara was tagging him, beating him to the punch when there were times to engage. Not to mention, you play to your strengths in boxing.... When has Lara ever been considered a brawler or inside fighter? Okay then.
What...are...you...taaalking about? Did you even watch Alvarez-Angulo? It was practically toe-to-toe. Canelo laid a beating on poor Perro. There were times Alvarez was waving Alfredo on, like "C'mon!"

Canelo doesn't know how to cut off a ring. If he did, he might've busted Lara up. True story.

Convincingly? I don't think so. Neither do the majority of those polled. I thought Lara won. But convincingly? No. There would've been an uproar. Just like in the P Will fight. The judges in that robbery should've been suspended. Oh, wait....

Cool, more he-said, she-said clouding your judgement of what actually matters -- the fight. Couldn't care less how the fight got made and who said what, I'm basing my viewpoint solely on what took place in the ring on July 12th, 2014. I saw one guy, convincingly outbox the other.

Yes I watched the Alvarez-Angulo fight. I saw Canelo throw his much sharper, much faster combinations, move to another part of the ring, wait for the slow-plodding Angulo to catch up, and walk him into another combination. Wash, rinse, repeat. The only time he stood in and traded was in round 8 (the round you mentioned when he was like "c'mon!" and Angulo obliged). Since you're a fan of 'he-said, she-said', BJ Flores knows people in Angulo's camp that said he had to lose 50 lbs just to make weight for their fight, but it's not like we couldn't tell by his 45 minute ring walk.

I like the hypotheticals, those hold a ton of credence on NSB. True Story, bro.

If you don't think Lara won convincingly, I can't help you.
