I'm not sure he does big numbers with either Martinez or PWill. I could be wrong, aside from hardcore fans who love Martinez, will he be enough to garner a 24/7 series(does he even speak English?), which has been a recipe for big numbers--targeted advertising. I agree that Mayweather does have more options, hopefully he chooses the most challenging ones, that's always been the caveat with him.

It's all about proper timing and marketability. Against Marquez Mayweather had claimed Marquez had an entire country behind him(it was only after this fight where he claimed the exact opposite), a lot of Mexicans paid to see that fight, that played into the numbers in addition to the excitement factor of having the best boxer on the planet coming back...fair enough, off of Martinez/PWill he may come close to a million not sure he passes that number, heavily dependent on promotion in my opinion.

Everyone by now understands who Mayweather is, his shtick will eventually wear off. Mosley had name recognition beyond just someone who people thought would be competitive, although not a big seller, paired with a big star Mosley could attract a higher audience and likely did as evidenced by the people who purchased live tickets, they were Mosley supporters. If you paired Mayweather with Clottey I wonder what the numbers would have been? My guess is less than 700,000K with about half the venue empty.

If JMM had that big a following, he would have been able to do bigger numbers with Barerra and Casamayor. JMM, just like Mosley did by far their biggest PPV numbers with Mayweather. Hell, de la Hoya did by far his biggest numbers with Mayweather. I think its time to just accept that Mayweather is a megastar and a helluva fighter. I mean seriously, everything he does successful is matched with one excuse after another. He beats someone that was given a good chance of beating him going in and all of a sudden it was wrong with the opponent. Someone doubles what they've previously done in PPv with him, and all of a sudden they were the ones who pushed the promotion.
