Until you get to the point where your team can't control everything and you get exposed. It's happened to AJ now twice. The first time was awful, this one just icing on the cake really.
Are you saying AJ benefitted from a bunch of gift decisions ?
IMHO, and I'm no AJ cheerleader, a boxer who is able to be ''the man'' in his div is not really a hype job. I will wait and see how his rematch with Usyk goes before getting out the shovel.

the stiff robot is massively overrated, his brainwashed fans thought he was some ATG talent. However he was still one of the top 3 HW in this weak era, so can't really call him a hype job. Hype job to me, is someone who is hyped up but doesn't accomplish much.

I'm saying he benefitted from having every advantage going into those fights - for example, they were in his backyard, and he could fight knowing that all he had to do was go 12 and he would get the W. That is different than saying he got gift decisions; however it is still an important bonus for a fighter.

I don't think he was ever 'the man' in the division, again that was the hype, not the reality. The reality is he wanted no part of Wilder as it was too dangerous, and same with Fury, just dangerous in a different way. He feasted on 'names' who were past prime, and/or taking fights in his own backyard.

Whyte, Wlad, Usyk, and Ruiz were the only times imo that he took even a bit of a risk, and they weren't huge risks at all relatively speaking. And we saw how those fights went.

Unlike team sports, homefield usually relies on who is the top dog. Been that way since at least the invention of TV. Goes with the sport. If you are the top dog, you call the shots. I consider it a perk of being the top dog. What's the point of being ''a boss'' if you can't call the shots ?

Was he gifted any home fights he should have lost ? Which of his opponents backyard would AJ have problems in ?
Personally, I'm tired of this hometown favoritism. Does it exist ? Not to the extent it changes a losers career.
Judges will get called out on their biased scorecards.

While AJ is far from an ATG, he was the holder of more belts at one time the longest since Wlad.

I say hype job in the sense that to me he seems to be the current guy whose hype does/did not match reality in the biggest way. Other similar 'stars' have been labeled as hype jobs in this era, but I don't think it's close as far as who the most overhyped is - it's AJ. Everyone else right now who has acclaim as a boxer is closer to that hyped status than AJ is.

You guys aren't going to see the next loss coming, get ready for it, so it doesn't shatter your pysche.
How do you define hype job? I'm just curious. I actually just looked it up in the dictionary, and it said "Gervonta Davis." I'm not even joking.

                Check it:

used in when referring to someone who is
Gervonta Davis is following Mayweather blueprint weak opponents but claiming to be the GOAT the guy is a !

Broner getting overhyped on forums, I never really frequented them much during that time, if it happened. Everyone knows he isn't top level now, and everyone now knows what he is and isn't. AJ fans are still having problems with all of that
Bull**** lol don’t rewrite history. the majority of Americans said Wilder was the best of this era

He was overhyped by his fans but you can't call the guy a hype job.
