AJ is the biggest hype job of this generation and it isn't close

Not hating on the guy, he is a good fighter. But so obviously protected and carefully promoted in his career, and he twice has been outclassed by much smaller men, one of whom had no business being in the same ring as him.

All you UK lovers/AJ fans, don't ever call anyone a hype job ever again. You guys have it so wrong with AJ that you have 0 credibility.

The thing is most real boxing fans never rated him that highly

he just attracted a huge casual fanbase in the UK, a few of which ended up on here, such as **** Em and Robbie Barrett

those of us from the UK that know boxing have always said he isn’t that good. He’s just a solid B level fighter.

I know there are a lot of good UK posters/fans too. Most of them seem to recognize that Fury has had a (much) more credible career thus far. His shocking win vs Wlad, and 2 performances vs Wilder, plus 0 losses, say enough for him. AJ has been very carefully promoted and protected and anyone who was touting him was acting quite foolish.

He has been so carefully promoted so far that honestly I'm surprised Hearn allowed the Usyk fight.

AJ still the undefeated, undisputed king of deodorant commercials and motivational youtube videos.

yeah because of Social Media in this ERA, I think all of the current fighters are Overrated AF

I don't see greatness in any of these fighters, a lot of them are Good...really Good but Great? Hell No!

Credit to Eddie Hearn, he did just the perfect job of Building Up AJ into a Superstar in a mega Draw in the UK. Lucky for him he is British and Brits have the best Boxing Fans and they're loyal. If AJ was American, people would be comparing him to Adrien Broner and saying that his career is "OVER" after this Defeat

Good post. I think some guys today are rated well, some are overrated, and some underrated. As you pointed out, if you are from the right place, it can help with your hype.

I think about guys like Chilemba, who have 10 blemishes on their record, but if he was from the right place he would have about 3 or 4 max. Anywhere where there is money to be made from the fans, guys will get overrated. The demand will usually exceed the supply. UK is the best example of this, but they do have some really good fighters as well in recent memory. Froch and Fury immediately come to mind.

I think the top 3 heavyweights are all overrated as hell by their respective fanbases.

AJ to his credit, took on the top 10's around him the most though

Lol...very carefully promoted, easy to see. Gotta open your eyes.

Everyone with any potential in this sport is promoted carefully, but AJ has been way more than Fury or Wilder. AJ took on the safest challenges possible, all at home basically. When he stepped out of that comfort zone he got stopped by a C+ fighter.

Look at Fury traveling all over and fighting Wlad, Wilder twice. Wilder taking on Fury twice, Ortiz twice.

When your sample size is 'taking on guys in the top 10' you have to factor in other things - like what level that guy is at that time, where the fight is, etc. Come on man

Very good post. The respective fanbases are delusional and it's incredibly difficult to have discourse with them because of the irrational and fanatical positions.

AJ is obviously beatable but even with his two losses, he still has a better resume than either Wilder or Fury.
