It doesn't matter $ wise who Cotto fights at 147 because he will make about the same amount of $ on all the mentioned fighters he has to select from. Out of all of them the only guy at 147 that can mean the most for Cotto $ wise is Sugar Shane Mosley after ANNIHILATING Antonio Margarito the guy that beat Cotto & Cotto beat Shane prior to Margarito. So to all the people saying that Cintron will make Cotto more $ because of the Puerto Rican day Parade that's false because Cintron lost all creditability from what lil he had already and Cotto would be carrying that fight. Andre Berto is no different.
Sure he is an undefeated champ at 147 but he still has a questionable win to Collazo (Not saying that I believe it to be or not) But Cotto would go into
the fight as the betting favorite. Joshua Clottey is the man to beat for Cotto to seal his hold on 147 supremacy. Fans believe that the fight could go either way
so it is more intriguing and will be more competitive than Berto/Cintron. In actuality Cotto would be the bigger name on all three fights so it really doesn't matter in a selling out look.
This boils down to taking the toughest challenge and that's Joshua Clottey by far. The only MEGA pay day for Miguel Cotto is a fight with the winner of Pacquiao/Hatton with Mosley being the runner up. Bottom line Cotto do the right thing for the fans and pick Clottey.
The last 6 boxers that Berto has faced are the following:
Luis Collazo (which he almost lost too)
Steve Forbes
Miguel Angel Rodriguez
Michael Trabant
David Estrada
Cosme Rivera
Are these high level Boxers?? Who are they???? Probably Collazo is the only one and he didn't look good against him. Some might say he lost that fight. I don't even want to go who's before those fighters because you probably have never heard of them.
The last 6 boxers that Clottey has faced are the following:
Zab Judah
Jose Luis Cruz
Shamon Alvarez
Felix Flores
Diego Corrales
Antonio Margarito (lost unanimus decision in 12 rounds)
You can pick 3 high level boxers out of which Clottey defeated 2 (Zab Judah and Diego Corrales who he knocked down twice) and against Margarito Clottey went the distance on a fight on which Clottey injured his hand in the 4th round going to lose round 5 thru 11 on all oficial score cards.
With this information i just want to prove that Berto is to green for a level fighter like Cotto. There's a loy of hype for Berto and he is exciting but at this point in his career he hasn't defeated anybody imprtant convincingly. And as for his belt, he won that belt against Miguel Angel Rodriguez????? when i beleive it was Pretty Boy (i might be mistaken) who left it vacant, so it's not like he won his title by fighting a true Champion.
ONCE AGAIN COTTO--CLOTTEY SHOULD BE THE FIGHT and Berto should fight Collazo again and a Quintana in order to gain more experience befor throwing him to the lions.
1) I wont even respond to how you know which fight makes more money, personally my career has nothing to do with Promoting or knowing these things unless its a no brainer which I dont believe this is(or there would be no discussion on the subject)
awesome, I dont want to talk about money anyways... ur the one who is complaining about cotto not getting paid.
2)Fans of Cotto fearing who he fights..hmmmm Not even worht responding.
you scared. on PR parade day you want the sure victory instead of a competitive fight.
3)As for paying to see the event of course but what you forget is in NYC there is also a parade and TV shows and interview and radio stations for both fighters plus a whole lot more that brings money but again wont get into money too much, Im no pro.
LOL i thought we weren't gonna talk about money anymore cause you don;t know nothing about promoting and knowing these things... Clottey is from NYC anyways so that a bonus for the promotion.
Listen man...this thread is about Cottos option..If you like the Clottey...Im happy for you...Why a Cotto fan would fear another man fighting theirs seems a little ****** to me....Im a boxing and fighting fan first and foremost before I worship some guy that fights for a living(you must be mistaking me for a delusional Margarito fan)...So id rather see ANY damn fight...but Cotto is the one that puts his life and career on the line ...ultimately its up to him to choose whats best for him Thats why this thread states : Options.
I respect that... but we all know clottey is the best fight
Shut the **** up you dumb nuthugger no one wants to hear what your ******ed Cotto hating ass has to say. Now go and keep sucking on black fighters balls.
yo BMW this dude sounds like that nuthugger that we destroyed last time wen he was talkin all that about margarito bein the best and cotto bein nuttin, i think Electrode is the same b*tch

Let me put this as simple as possible to all these, Lawyers Doctors, sanitation men, carpenters, that know exactly which fight will make more money for Cotto when even a Promoter needs to research the numbers....I Like to see Cotto Fight Berto or Clottey(I Love boxing more than boxers) but if something is more financially lucrative I understand he has to do what he has to do.....As for Pay per view numbers and filling the Garden We all know that they will be good with Cotto vs whoever...But in a City where Puerto Ricans are celebrating their history in June, theryre are more things and ways for the boxers to make money, TV Shows spanish and english, radio stations, All types of PR events, signings, and Im sure offers that we dont even know...believe me the PR vs PR angle will sell to even casual or non boxing fans...but again I wont get into it too much because Im no pro on the subject.

Listen I respect your love for a great fight I love it too...so you know what ....just for you I will say Cotto should say the hell with the money and fight Clottey or Berto ...whichever he himself feels is the harder fight...I dont know about fear for fighters though..cant help you there.

I completely agree with your post Grustler!!!
However even though i agree that Cotto-Mosley fight is bigger and will make more money than any other boxers mentioned beside Hatton-Pacquiao. The way they will have to split the Money (probably 50-50) and being that there will be 2 promoters involve it would come down to less money to Cotto's pocket at the end.
This will probably be less than a possible 60-40 split with one promoter, at the Garden, in a Cotto - Clottey fight, in the eve of the puertorican parade on which Arum can probably get more sponsers even from Puerto Rico, being that New York is the "Biggest City" that Puerto Rico has. Over 2 million puertorican in New York. Arum won't have that on the west coast which is where Mosley said he would only fight Cotto again.
But Generally it was a great post Grustler and this is just my opinion. I might be wrong.
