We are arguing about the same thing, the only difference is my view (and the correct view) is that Russia is in Syria to consilidate power and strengthen Assad. That means taking out ISIS, FSA, and whatever other groups stand in their way.

Your title of the thread seemed to indicate as though Russia set out with the sole purpose to eliminate ISIS, which would be misleading.

If somebody robbed your house and several others, and I took back the posessions and returned them to you but only to collect a reward and not because I care about you, you'd still appriciate what I did.

For the tragedy of Flight 17 which hurt us deeply, I cannot make a clear thought process because Ukraine claims it was Russian rebels and vice versa. What I do know is that Russia's objective isn't to shoot down Dutch civil aircrafts.

The US official policy is still to overthrow Assad.

They tried to take war to Assad, and were defeated, including by Russia.

The US could take out Assad and ISIS if it wanted, ***** just isn't interested in going to war (even though his actions helped create the situation).
