This isn't a baseball player taking on Justin Speith in match play golf based off the fact he can swing a club, the similarities and skills needed in stand-up MMA and boxing are much, much more closely aligned. People are also talking like McGregor is going to go in there and become some super-orthodox upright boxer trying to outscore Mayweather jab for jab. I think this is going to be unlike anything we have seen in every way, and McGregor is crazy and confident enough to actually come at this in a completely unorthodox but effective manner. I'm a huge fan of Mayweather's ability and think he is a genius, but I also look at how Maidana, DLH and Cotto approached him and see ways McGregor could at the very least make it interesting and find ways to land. McGregor also has a 5cm reach advantage - FYI, Cotto has a 13cm disadvantage, Maidana an 8cm disadvantage and DLH only a 2cm advantage. McGregor is also a southpaw, Judah gave Mayweather all sorts of problems early on and has the same reach as him.

I'm not saying McGregor will win, but I do think he has more than enough to make it interesting for 4-5 rounds and find people's reaction to this fight ignorant and misinformed.
Excellent post. Those who are comparing this with a tennis player trying to beat the best golfers are horribly misguided. If there was a sporting comparison I would use it would be a snooker player playing pool. They're on a different table but they're hitting balls with sticks like always.

Its not confidence its an attempt to get Floyd into making a silly mistake, he has no hope Floyd is rock solid mentally to the point of cyborg.

Connor is going to sit back and hope Floyd is aggressive, his entire macho man BS is about trying to intimidate the opponent or make them angry, this is not outa shape Pauli this is an in shape ATG,,, reality bites !

did you listen to his media call yesterday, it thought exactly the same thing.

He's faced guys that aren't in the same league for standup as elite boxers, Floyds been dodging punches since he could walk, the accuracy and defensive instinct is a different level to McGregor

I watched Maidana Floyd 1 before, Maidanas pressure and unconventional timing and angles gave Floyd a lot of problems
Floyd figured him in the rematch but I think Maidana was worse, maybe just getting paid the 2nd time.
McGregor is a bit bigger but I do not believe he punches as hard as Maidana or has his stamina, he's athletic and flashy but honestly he's kinda square on and doesn't turn his punches over sometimes, if Floyd lasts the first 2 rounds he will smash McGregor up
Maidana didn't have Ariza for the second fight...

Exactly, dismissing a professional knock out artist is ignorant he may not be a conventional boxer but he can move and throw hands and he can fight going backwards ffs he's knocked out a few people in under 10's his timing is spot on and he can take a shot this will be explosive for a few rounds it will be a good nite of fighting not boxing fighting lol

Conor thinks he's going to make a difference with the feet? Of all things?

When did he become fast on his feet??

Maybe he has the right sensibility and understanding. He may have the right movement in mind. But can he accelerate and change direction fast enough to dance with Floyd? I've seen no evidence of that. Zero. WTF is he talking about? McGregor is smart enough to know the key to winning but he's NOT physically able. I don't care how many times he's read The Secret. He ain't winning.

Rounds in boxing only last 3 minutes. The holding, posing and ref interference alone would used up all those minutes, believe me.
Time seems excruciatingly slow when you want your fighter to just survive the distance, doesn't matter if he wins or not.
Seems fast when you want someone to get beat up, but doesn't seem to be happening. 12 rounds will feel like 3 rounds or something.
