He was definitely laying on the ropes, yeah.

Lots of guys do that though, just to give them a sense of position and a way to slip or initiate a clinch. In this case, the shots definitely knocked his balance off, he was already heading out of the ring before the last punch sent him out at a worse angle.

I don't have a problem with the rule in general, but there are certain cases where the actual fall is the most damaging moment. To be stopped on a fall is a little strange.

I would say If the outter side of the ring is solid a real hard fall then they should address that and surround the area with padding so fighters don't suffer a bad fall like Hopkins had that one looked painful af for him.
If they did that then fair enough keep the 20 seconds because if we add anymore we give people who have legitimately been rocked a really good chance to recover.

Hopkins had no business being in there with that young man. There is a good reason you don't see 50 year olds fighting dudes in their 20s on a regular basis.

I really wanted Hopkins to retire without ever being stopped. It's frustrating cause Hopkins should have retire two years ago so he wouldnt go out like this.

That's not the same though, that would still be a devastating punch in order to face plant someone and it's a very normal thing.

The shots that knocked Hopkins out of the ring weren't all that powerful, it was the fall that was bad. There was nothing wrong with his ankle (just Hopkins being Hopkins ), but it was definitely a big drop and hard fall directly on his back...some situations are just unusual and need slightly different implementing of rules.

Are you kidding bro Hopkins was seeing stars before he hit the floor. But I agree that fall looked ugly. I can't tell if his fall was broken by the people in the corner at all but nonetheless those falls on the back of the head are always a big cause for conern.

WTF? It's exactly the same. Either you get hit and your senses leave you or you take a gut shot and have a clear head but no wind and you can't get back up or you fall badly and your ankle turns or you tear a muscle or you dislocate a shoulder, knee, hip or elbow or break a bone so you can't move, stand or punch or you get cut so bad the fight needs to be stopped or you just quit and say 'no mas'.

Or you get blasted out of the ring by a bunch of punches and land on your head...

If any of those fight ending scenarios are due to a foul then there is cause for argument but a fairly landed punch or bunch of in a game where the ultimate goal is to debilitate your opponent to the point they can't continue using only the weapons and moves the rules allow? Sorry but then it is game over via some version of knockout.
