I don't think I believe the ankle excuse but I do believe he likely would have hurt his back bad from that fall depending on how hard that floor is.
That's not the same though, that would still be a devastating punch in order to face plant someone and it's a very normal thing.

The shots that knocked Hopkins out of the ring weren't all that powerful, it was the fall that was bad. There was nothing wrong with his ankle (just Hopkins being Hopkins ), but it was definitely a big drop and hard fall directly on his back...some situations are just unusual and need slightly different implementing of rules.

20 seconds is fine if you have a little fall, but how was he supposed to recover from a fall like that (a big drop and landing directly on his back/head) and be back in the ring within 20 seconds?
Then here's an idea: Don't get punched the f uck outta the ring.

He was trying to lay off the ropes though wouldn't you say?
Which is in every way the ropes holding you up from the shots, the shots Bhop took were well they looked pretty meaty to me strung up combination think most other men would have got KOed.

Vintage Hopkins, including the good, the bad and the ugly.
The good- movement and counter right, the bad- head butts, holding etc and the ugly- bad acting job and "poor me" bs.
Still Hopkins was a one of a kind fighter. Always best at neutralizing his opponent and taking the fight out of the fight.

Hahaha..... hahaha.... haha... only Hopkins would try to claim an uppercut to the chin was a push... and only a blind man would agree!

He was out when he fell out the ring, the impact of the fall woke his old ass up

Yeah i know right? Not fair. If you get knocked out and can't make it back on to your feet in ten seconds how the hell are you supposed to get up before the count of ten? Refs should allow a fighters to get their senses back, maybe offer a little light physio and some smelling salts, wait until the fighters head has cleared and then and only then start a ten count...

He didn't get knocked out, did he? Its not remotely the same.

He would have gone down and in turn a knockdown scored is absolutely correct. However, he wouldn't have been knocked out, yet the big fall onto the ground resulted in the equivalent of a knockout.

He was definitely laying on the ropes, yeah.

Lots of guys do that though, just to give them a sense of position and a way to slip or initiate a clinch. In this case, the shots definitely knocked his balance off, he was already heading out of the ring before the last punch sent him out at a worse angle.

I don't have a problem with the rule in general, but there are certain cases where the actual fall is the most damaging moment. To be stopped on a fall is a little strange.
