What? How was he put out dirty? He was clearly punched cleanly. Unless maybe you are referring to his dirty tactics, ie lying to try and get out of the fight without a ko loss.

I wouldn't say undefeated, think of Foreman and Archie Moore.
Yes it beats them all in the end, but not before a few unexpected defeats.

I am glad it was a white guy, not because I dislike blacks, but because I disliked him saying, "I will never lose to a white boy"...before losing three bouts to them.

Hopefully he continues his graceless schtick by saying he hurt his ankle or got pushed or something.

GGG has fought nobodies and I bet you can't even name his last five opponents without looking it up on boxrec and you definitely can't name the guys they fought before entering the ring with GGG yet he is one of the most popular fighters in boxing.

And Floyd didn't ruin the sport. Since it is still here more than a year after his retirement. Its just that people don't care about the sport as much as they used to. The sport has been fading in popularity for years and the Mayweather Pacquiao rivalry is what kept it alive. If the fight happened between the two 5 years ago the sport would have gone into irrelevancy 5 years ago.

But you people are short sighted. You were so desperate to see the man lose and now you're bitter that it never happened while he made himself insanely rich lol. He essentially used the hatred of the "fans" to line his pockets and it worked brilliantly.
Why is it racist not to be a fan of a cherry picking bore?
In all my years as a boxing fan, I have NEVER once come across a black guy who rooted for a white guy who was fighting a black one. I would have rooted for Leonard against any white guy, plus Holyfield, and many others, and as you have guessed, I am white. Only white boxers I was ever a fan of were Pazienza, Gatti, Mancini and Bobby Chacon.

I think just going the distance against Kovalev at age 49, despite getting beat badly, was a bit of an accomplishment, to just say "hey, I've never been stopped, not even Kovalev could stop me just two months shy of 50". That was something to hang his hat on. Now unfortunately, he retires with a stop.

I think it was very unfortunate like Hopkins said, it was a weird sequence of events, laying on the ropes taking some ok shots but nothing that was going to legit KO him to suddenly falling out the ring, and not even landing on a table he went straight to the concrete lol just about the worst thing that could have possibly happened. But still, totally unnecessary fight for a guy that proved everything he wanted to and then some.

Just goes to show how cruel of a sport this is - there are no victory laps for an old vet to retire off in the sunset. It's a young man's game and eventually age will catch up with everyone, even the legend of Hopkins couldn't escape that.

Oh well. I'm sure after he gets into the Hall of fame, people will remember him for his accomplishments, not losing to a guy hardly anyone knew of.
I wish he had picked a guy in the top 20 rather than the top 10 and gone out with a win. Most fans and critics would have not complained. Too hard to take the age and the layoff factors into the ring against a top 10 fighter like that. But at least he can say he was never stopped in his prime, a distinction that is impressive as well. Still, I badly wanted him to ride off into the sunset with a win. Something in me wants him to fight a guy around the 10th or 15th ranked and get that last win. I hate it when a great cannot have one last moment of glory at the very end.

Im not talking about the people who aren't fans. I'm talking about the people who actively hate the guy and buy his fights only to see him lose. For someone to take their own hard earned money and basically spend it to watch someone they don't like is pure hatred. People hate for different reasons, jealousy, race, insecurity, etc.

And if you do your research you'll find that ****y black American fighters have always been the most hated despite their fighting their style. Jack Johnson, Muhammad Ali, Floyd Mayweather are prime examples.

Part of the problem was Hopkins' camp didn't take that Fonfara KO seriously. Fonfara is a very stubborn, cranky fighter that only gets better AFTER you hurt him . It wakes him up, and he wants revenge, and to return the favor! Even if its just throwing Chavez Jr's spaghetti legs taunt back at him!Smith broke this man's will, when nobody else could, and he needed just ONE round, and a handful of punches to do it ! So this was obviously a very dangerous man.

Smith didn't fall for the Hopkins trap that other fighters like Shumenov, Cloud, and even Kovalev did. Maybe it was his youth, and he didn't know any better? But Smith came into the fight with idea that I'm not gonna try to win a starring contest with Hopkins for 12 rounds. I'm going to attempt to win this fight by throwing punches . That's all he needed to do!

They'll be okay if they don't get too ambitious too soon. A Sullivan Barrera, Chilemba, Pascal, those would be a good next step.
