Stevenson is playing 'hard to get' in a time where Kovalev has surpassed him in every way. As a result, he will rot and end up losing to a journeyman while Kovalev moves on to bigger and better things. I doubt HBO or anyone else is concerned that Kovalev needs to be protected against an obviously fading Stevenson - they simply don't need him, especially with his attitude. Stevenson's best win is against Chad Dawson.... Stevenson is perfectly content fighting bums and it's sad.

Kovalev is anything but protected, are you sure you are not confusing him with Stevenson? You know the guy who avoided both Hopkins and Pascal while Kovalev took care of them.

jean pascal was beaten arguably 3 times by hopkins twice and carl froch before kov got to him and pascal was slowin' down even then
kov has had a light touch at lhw and really only has two names on his resume of note
