I said this would happen after Murray just by seeing the landscape unfold over the past couple months, it was bound to be a drop off from Murray unless Cotto were to take the fight but we all knew that wasn't going to happen.
He's a bigger guy, who'd come into the fight with a hopefully better chin; not the most ideal situation, but workable.

Golovkin is kind of in the situation where Anderson Silva was not too long ago; a top fighter without much competition in his class.

Instead of keeping Silva on a diet of outgunned softies in his weight class, the UFC made the decision to move Silva out of the weight class.

James Irvin, the first opponent, wasn't a world beater at light heavyweight, but he brought enough of the novelty of being a bigger guy to make things a bit more interesting.

Btw can someone explain to me how the WBA titles work?

Golovkin is currently the WBA Super champion.
Danny Jacobs is the WBA regular champion.

Does this mean Jacobs is in a mandatory position for Golovkin or are they basically two separate titles in the same weight class?

Can't stand the WBA and all their belts.
The WBA likes to have world title fights; rather than have their title in a situation like the WBC 154 championship (Floyd Mayweather Jr, the best fighter at 147 and 154, is their champion, and is only fighting in title bouts; if the WBC would push, their title would be vacated and their champion wouldn't be the actual champion at the weight), they tier their titles (their top champion is recognized as such, and in spots of inactivity, the WBA still has a "junior champion" to hold up).

      call it what you want.

I watched it the other day, and it kind of fit the point I was making~

In May you are correct it is just I see this same pattern again and again with him. If I didn't think highly of him I wouldn't even care the bit I do about it because it is his career to make good on. In boxing a guy can make a whole lot happen if they want it to. I have no real issue with Golovkin staying on the grind until he gets the spot he wants but until he actually finds that spot things will continue to get worse for him.
Nothing is gonna get worse for him. The more he fights, the more he builds his brand and there's nothing wrong with that.

That said, Hopkins was a self-destructive MoFo. He alienated people like King, Goosen, and Duva who tried to open doors for him and routinely turned down opportunities through out his career that Golovkin would've jumped at. Like after he beat Trinidad, turning down a multi-million dollar deal with Showtime to fight Hakaar, unify with Simon, then fight Calzaghe.

Are you serious about that? His team has done more to make him an attraction than we've seen in years for a fighter. And comfort zone? I just pointed out him signing fights with Pirog & Chavez, making offers to fight Rodriguez & Oosthuzien at 166, and to fight Froch in the UK at his weight. What is his team supposed to be doing differently?
Hopkins wasn't given any credit until he started knocking off guys and cleaned out the division.

Golovkin has fought, in his entire career, one somebody and folks have been desperately trying to throw him into an ll-time greats conversation with Marvin Hagler and Ray Robinson.

if you want to ignore that, so be it.

            Credit from who?
Ring declared Hopkins the #1 MW by April 0f '97.

Look at the resume of title fights he had up to that point:
            7/16/1996 William Bo James
            3/16/1996 Joe Lipsey
            1/27/1996 Steve Frank
            4/29/1995 Segundo Mercado

Rewatch his fights with Glenn Johnson & JDJ on youtube, the announcers were giving Hopkins full credit as the top MW, and it stayed that way through Trinidad.

As for Golovkin, it's only natural people compare guys in situations like that to the ATG's. It's on him fullfill it. Who cares if people want to speculate, that's on them.

Sounds like Monroe just said he's out. Hopefully HBO shows Monroe vs Heiland under Matthysse/Provodnikov.

This morning Fischer said it looks like it'll be Tureano Johnson on May 16th at the Forum. Great location, horrible opponent.

Any chance this could be the date for Roman Gonzalez to make his debut?
That would be better than the Canelo card Roman fought in LA against Estrada and there is a Nicaraguan community.

How frustrating is it being a GGG fan? Knowing that you gotta fight can after can.

                    That's the rumor.

Like giving a teenager a high-end sports car and putting a governor on it.

I haven't seen Golovkin pull out all the stops on anything. Hopkins did things his way, sure it screwed him in a lot of ways but he was always trying to do something.

Sure he has tried to get some fights, but there is a difference between going out and making something occur for himself or waiting for something to fall into his lap. Golovkin has been content to sit and wait to let something fall into his lap, I get why it is happening but with no one else is that anywhere close to cool.

Fights that don't happen are fights that don't happen you don't get credit for them just because they didn't take place.

His team, maybe he should find a new team~
