I'm not sure on this fight, but if I had a gun to my head, I'd have to bet on Cotto because of the following reasons:
a-) Hometown advantage (any close scorecards will favor Cotto)
b-) Margarito is rusty as hell and hasn't looked good
c-) Orbital cheekbone (need I say more?)
d-) Given the anomysity between them, I doubt Cotto will give Margarito the pleasure of being defeated via TKO (Cotto being TKO'd)
Margarito isn't winning a decision unless he absolutely puts on the beatdown of a lifetime. Cotto can take punishment, so all he has to do is box so-so against a very easy-to-hit Margarito while not getting tempted to blow his stamina by throwing everything he has within those punches. He makes it to the final bell and he wins a decision, even if he looks bad.
The Burning Questions are:
#1: Will Margarito finally show signs of deterioration in his chin (given the inordinate amount of punishment he's taken since his pro career started at the age of 15-16?)?
#2: Will his cheek hold up and not tear up like in the Pacquiao fight?
I'm not worried about Margarito's heart, he is going to fight and won't quit (especially in this fight considering the PR-Mexican rivalry), so heart is out of the question. What I'm wondering about are his chin and his face?
His chin has shown itself to still be a remarkable attribute even after the punishment taken with Cotto, Mosley, and Pacquiao.
I think we should all be wondering whether his face will hold up, that's what I'm REALLY wondering.
Cotto should be the favorite in this fight, though. I'd reckon the fight's like 65-35 or 70-30 in Cotto's favor.
Stopping Margarito? It'll happen if his face doesn't hold up. Stopping Margarito the way Mosley did? That'd be impressive but I doubt it.
