I'm not sure on this fight, but if I had a gun to my head, I'd have to bet on Cotto because of the following reasons:

a-) Hometown advantage (any close scorecards will favor Cotto)
b-) Margarito is rusty as hell and hasn't looked good
c-) Orbital cheekbone (need I say more?)
d-) Given the anomysity between them, I doubt Cotto will give Margarito the pleasure of being defeated via TKO (Cotto being TKO'd)

Margarito isn't winning a decision unless he absolutely puts on the beatdown of a lifetime. Cotto can take punishment, so all he has to do is box so-so against a very easy-to-hit Margarito while not getting tempted to blow his stamina by throwing everything he has within those punches. He makes it to the final bell and he wins a decision, even if he looks bad.

    The Burning Questions are:

#1: Will Margarito finally show signs of deterioration in his chin (given the inordinate amount of punishment he's taken since his pro career started at the age of 15-16?)?

#2: Will his cheek hold up and not tear up like in the Pacquiao fight?

I'm not worried about Margarito's heart, he is going to fight and won't quit (especially in this fight considering the PR-Mexican rivalry), so heart is out of the question. What I'm wondering about are his chin and his face?

His chin has shown itself to still be a remarkable attribute even after the punishment taken with Cotto, Mosley, and Pacquiao.

I think we should all be wondering whether his face will hold up, that's what I'm REALLY wondering.

Cotto should be the favorite in this fight, though. I'd reckon the fight's like 65-35 or 70-30 in Cotto's favor.

Stopping Margarito? It'll happen if his face doesn't hold up. Stopping Margarito the way Mosley did? That'd be impressive but I doubt it.

Probably only two ways this happens, full power lefy hook to the body, or he crushes the eye at some point, I could see either of those but Margarito is a dangerous dude with giant balls, he took probably the worst beating ive seen and finished the fight. Truly i have to wonder if Margarito's face and body will hold up and mentally how it will affect him to get hit hard on that eye?

not too sure. Cotto was brutally beaten by Margarito before. Somehow that has to effect you mentally. He also suffered a vicious beat down my Manny P. Cotto's been through a lot of wars and its starting to show. He didnt look impressive against Mayorga at all. And even though Margarito is also a shell of what he used to be, I dont give Cotto any clear advantage. They are both a couple of years past their prime.

Great post. Things to me that will be interesting

In their first fight I think Cotto and his team were coming off a high beating Mosley destroying Gomez. Cotto and team took Margarito a little lightly. I remember seeing a quote from Cotto's former cutman saying they thought Cotto would have little problem with Tony, should have did their homework.

The beating physically and mentally will it change the quality that makes Margarito who he is?

The stygma of the loaded wraps, which fighter will be more motivated, Cotto for revenge or Margarito seeking to salvage a tarnished reputation.

Which trainer will shine and help his fighter make the necessary adjustments?

I just wanna see who wants it more, cause there's a lot at stake for both guys here.

I don't think Margarito will come in that deteriorated. After the way Mosley Ko'd him everyone was sure that the Cotto fight had caught up to him. Then we found out he was weight drained. Afterwards he took a worse beating from a guy who is stronger than Cotto or Shane; Pacquiao. And not only did he not get decked but he made it to the final bell. He also hurt Manny bad with a body shot. I don't know man but Roach said they checked Tony wraps and they were clean. If you listen to Pac after the fight he says he couldn't believe how strong Tony was. He even admitted that he got hurt to the face and body. There were rumors that Pac suffered broken ribs. However team Pac denied it. but there are videos on youtube of Pac getting his whole abdomen bandaged after the Marg fight. Then there is another video where he has difficulty moving and his wife is helping him eat. So he obviously got hurt bad by a so called "plaster-less, powerless bum" who didn't even land that many punches. If Marg shows up at least how he did against Manny he will stop Cotto IMO.

Margaritards can say what they wants to say, but Cotto will outbox that slow-punching cheater this time around. I'm willing to place my bet with Cotto walking out of Madison Square Garden on 12/03/11 as the winner.

Paragraphs are your friend man. *****, I couldn't read that opening post at all.

Anyways. If Cotto hasn't developed a damage threshold. He isn't beating Margarito.

margarito never looked good in any of his post suspension fights. Plus he might be thinking too much of his recently healed, but almost career ending injury. Cotto looks comfortable at the present division. It seems its all pointing to a Cotto victory.

Pac took alot of hits from Marg cause Margs just throws when you are in front of him. Cotto should safely box and work that eye and send straight body shots cause margs can defend the sides of his body. Cotto has the tools to win depending which cotto shows up
