    Mayweather v Ortiz and Race

The outrage and controversy that surrounds the outcome of the fight is more about race than it is about the fight. Historically the media (white media and a significant % of whites) has always had a difficult time or flat out refuses to accept a Black man who is outspoken and proud. America like's its' Negroes to be submissive and docile. Americans actually were threatened by Martin Luther King and let’s not forget how much white America really felt about Muhammad Ali.

Now that we have the backdrop let’s fast forward to this fight. People are calling this a controversy and at the same time stating that Mayweather did nothing wrong. ?????????? Wow so the Black guy has to reach some sort of extra standards that are only visible to white people. Instead of evaluating the situation honestly – ORTIZ WAS LOOKING FOR A WAY OUT!!!!!! Ortiz wanted to quit like he did against Maidana stating “he didn’t deserve to get it like this”. Any boxer who jumps like he’s going for a rebound to head butt his opponent because he’s desperate is looking for a way out. Instead of questioning Ortiz’ toughness – he clearing could have gotten up because it was a knockdown punch not a knockout punch. Ortiz has no heart. By the way America didn’t and doesn’t care about Ortiz they will cheer and support anyone who can beat that Negro.

    Exactly the opposite is true.

If Ortiz would have sucker-punched Mayweather and knocked him out like that, I shudder to think how much b1tching and crying there would be about it!

The media nearly always sides with African-American athletes, whether they are right or wrong, and they show MUCH less respect for Hispanic and White athletes.

People in the US media have been going on and on about the headbutt from Ortiz. But they say little or nothing about Andre Ward's blatently deliberate headbutts, including the one that ended the fight with Mikkel Kessler!

And the HBO commentators didn't even mention the headbutt from Andre Berto that cut Dejan Zaveck.

if there's a double standard (which i think there is) it only helps Floyd BECAUSE he's black.

what about those racist Ustream comments he made against Pacquiao and his race and nationality. He got admonished for it but for the most part, got a free pass. In America you can say whatever you want about Asians with impunity. Say anything about black people, its career suicide.

but if Pac had said some things about black people or called Floyd the N-word, Pacquiao would not recover, his image tarnished forever. NAACP, Jesse Jackson, white media would be up Pac's ass

btw welcome to the new America, this aint 1965 anymore!

Don't believe this belongs on this forum. It's not about race its about opinions. Even some black boxers have said they felt the shot was cheap but legal. Does that mean that they're racist against other blacks? No, it's just an opinion.

Sick of people crying racism all the time.

oh here comes the VICTIM CARD.

floyd is held at a higher regard because he is a VETERAN & the big stage is his comfort zone. ortiz was the rookie stepping up for the FIRST TIME.... EVERYONE questioned how ortiz would handle under those circumstances. floyd SHOULDVE handled himself better (like he did with judah... btw, floyd received PLENTY of praise for his sportsmanship & cool-headedness in that situation). so it was disappointing to see floyd stoop down to a rookie's immaturity level.

honestly, the race card gets pulled too soon. by default, why cant people take responsibility for THEIR ACTIONS.

wasnt floyd the one who was trying to rally americans to not support pac because he is from another country??? talk about a guy who is using RACE to spread his prejudice.

floyd is prime example of that bratty kid that loves to talk smack, but gets emotional when it comes back around to him.

STop making excuses for vic. He cheated and then got his ass beat. And you want floyd to take the high road. Cool, WOuld you? I doubt it.

WHile race shouldn't be an issue, you know if vic did this to manny they'd talk about the headbutt. Lampley, Steward, Merchant never called it inetentional. Knowing that, I can understand why people associate the backlash with race.

@jtjr35, I feel the same way. Blacks are held to the highest standard of the entire world when they have a little success while others like dela Hoya can go snort up Peru are forgiven. It's a shame people can't change their view of blacks in this country. There will always be haters.
