Breaking: Canelo Alvarez Wants No Part of David Benavidez, Officially Cherrypicks 37 Year Old 154lber Terrence Crawford in September at Las Vegas. Crawford Will Move 2 Weight Classes to Fight Canelo

The Ring has learned that an agreement is in place for Saul “Canelo” Alvarez to defend his super middleweight titles against Terence Crawford in an intriguing battle between generational greats.
Alvarez, 34, and Crawford, 37, are expected to meet in the main event of a Riyadh Season show - on a September date to be determined, and a venue to be chosen in Las Vegas.

Bernard Hopkins was 50 years old still winning title. I don't think Crawford's age will be a factor at all here. These are generational greats were talking about here.

Crawford has had *one* fight at 154, and didn't look stellar at the weight class. He's a 147 lber.

Old,small, and didn't look good in his last fight. Yup,he's the perfect canelo opponent.

It’s a big money fight. I wouldn’t call it a cherry pick. Canelo has dodged Benny for some time. I don’t see any reason to make a point of it now.

              Crawford will outbox Canelo

Sometimes its harder fighting someone just a little smaller than yourself because of the speed

Crawford has reach and enough power to get Canelos respect..i wont be suprised if Crawford dominates and wins 10 rounds

Truth be told, crawford has been begging for his payday, this is not on canelo's, and we know he will never fight any threat. And I don't care about who he's fighting because I now watching anyway.

As a 25 year old (I cite to show his grown man size) Crawford was fighting at 135 pounds and almost 20 fights into his pro career (so firmly established). As a 25 year old Hopkins was less than 10 fights into his pro career, so maybe had a little longer left in his tank to box later on in life. I think citing Hopkins age is specious, he is an outlier. I mean SRL was a generational talent and he didn't win a fight after the age of 33, Hagler's last win came at 31.

That being written, the natural size disparity is insane. Crawford reached his physical prime as a lightweight. For all the 'Canelo was a lightweight talk', thats when he was a teenager. His first fight after turning 25 was for the middleweight title. He is naturally 2-3 weight classes bigger than Crawford. This seems like a lose/lose for Canelo.

If he wins, no credit is added to him, because he beat up on an old guy who was way smaller. If he loses, well then he never was great. Sad thing is, I think he'd take Benavidez right now.

Canelo didnt look like an assassin with a 154 Charlo, there is intangibles in this fight, and Madrimovs style is nothing like Canelos, I think TC at ring weight of around 164 can be very competitive with a 10 pound heavier Canelo, there are things here that make this very interesting from the weight to skills to ages and career wear and tear, I will be watching and hope TC can pull it off its a huge task.
