Even better would be including in the suit any promoter who allows a fight to contiue despite knowing that his contracted athlete failed a drug test before the fight.
That said, one thing that still bothers me about Team Haney's stance is that they still have dealings with Victor Conte.
I always thought Garcias wins was as about as shady as you could get. Dropping those last few pounds is so hard and gave Garcia a major advantage in strength and stamina. And to top it all off, he was on PEDs. Maybe Ryan could have won the fight anyways, but he didn't. He had two major advantages in not making weight and using pedd. Garcia is such a scumbag. I'm not a Haney fan, he is so boring, but got jobbed.
I'm all for these type of lawsuits tbh, especially since these wack belt orgs, sports commissions and promoters don't punish fighters like they should!
It's a preposterous lawsuit. Haney got millions from Garcia about the weight issue.
The drugs issue, debatable what amount, not saying any amount is fine. But yeah, a very bad look for Haney, who got well beaten, and he's a weight bully himself.
there was already a contractual clause to handle the event of being overweight and Haney agreed to it twice. he agreed to the penalties in the initial contract should it happen and then he agreed to it a second time when he decided to go forward with the fight when ryan came in over weight.
As for the PED tests, well i guess that is what kind of burden of proof does haney have to show? its not criminal, its civil so how does haney show that its more likely than not that Ryan knew he was taking PEDs? he has to show some kind of proof in court and ryan is the one that would have any proof, so they have to request it from him. would the court require him to provide phone records, email records ect during discovery?
How hard is it to write into a contract that irrespective of the result, any fighter testing positive after the match and without proof of accidental contamination forfeits all financial remuneration, plus 20% to the negative testing fighter and cops a standard 1 years suspension that includes posting on social media ?
Imagine Ryan knowing it was gonna cost him a fortune, his livelihood for a year and his fame from the outset.
Wow, and I thought Joey Gamache was a crook but it is a tale of two different lawsuits. It is up to Commission to punish a fighter for a positive test, and not a courtroom, or a losing fighter. When Fernando Vargas was using De La Hoya went out, and knocked him out. No excuses, no courtroom drama, and none of that non sense
This lawsuit is a joke.Eddie Hearn says a lot of BS it’s hilarious. The matchrroom USA takeover…DAZN was gonna take over boxing…Conor eggs saga…etc etc…now trying to say this lawsuit means anything for the sport lmao. The lawsuit won’t make it out of first circuit and Haney and co will be on the hook for all the lawyer fees. It’s so short sighted and hilarious because after lawyer fees bill is gonna be eating mR noodles again when he sees Devins next fight purse ROFL

Yup. The lawsuit will be thrown out by the first judge that hears it. By even acknowledging it, it would circumvent the athletic commission’s and make them pointless and unnecessary meaning no one will pay them to sanction their events. Anyone that thinks the court of America will do that is just an idiot.
