Cotto, as champion, has to pay the WBO a minimum of $1,000 and a max of $150,000.

Yes 145 is at WW, but it still isn't at the WW limit...

If Cotto is fighting for his 147 LB WW WBO BELT he should be able to weigh the max weight of 147. If its a 145 lb catch weight fight, why the hell is for his 147lb WBO belt?

Why would anyone think that? If Pac wants a WW belt, he can move up to WW (147) or at least fight a REAL (a say again a REAL WW) at 147.

Either way Cotto's keeping his belt.

It's not about what you weigh, it's about the maximum weight you are allowed to go up to. For a welterweight title fight, you should be able to weigh anything you like up to 147lb.

The rule is that you can weigh anything you like up to 147. There is no lower limit, there is no range, only an upper limit of 147. By specifying an upper limit of 145lb, it becomes a catchweight bout.

But if you specify a lower upper weight limit than 147lb, then according to the , it is not longer a valid championship bout at Welterweight. Francisco "Paco" Valcarcel is trying to change his own organisations rules, in order to get more money for his organisation.

In the past when catchweight bouts were for titles, that was because the title holder chose to put his title on the line. There have been other catchweight fights where a fighter chose not to put a title on the line. It is unprecedented for a sanctioning body to try to force a title holder to put his title on the line in a catchweight bout.

actually glad to see someone post the weight gains between the weigh in and the fight, Validates team Pacs weight demands and nullifies the "Clottey was bigger thats why he bullied Cotto argument"

No, the of a Welterweight fight is that the fighters can weigh anything up to 147. There is no range, and there is no lower limit. Henry Armstrong only weighed 133lb when he won the Welterweight title, and weighed less than 140 in many of his defences.

hey wes the answer to your question is because 147 is the limit to welterweight. is that too hard to figure out. 141,142,143,145,146,and 147 which is the limit. all of those weights are in the welterweight class.

This is BS. The limit is 147, and yes you can weigh WITHIN 141-147 and it still be within the welterweight limit. The problem is that they are telling Cotto he is not allowed to weigh 146 or 147 in defense of his weltewrweight title. The WBO should be backing Cotto for safety reasons, but they only care about money and they plan to get it either way. This sets a dangerous precadence. Now fighters with a lot of money, like Mayweather or Pacquio etc...can demand a middleweight Champion to defend his title at 155 or a Lt Heavyweight to defend at 169. Cotto should keep it a non-title fight then after the fight refuse to pay the fee and tell WBO to ram the belt it up their ass cracks. Manny doesnt deserve the chance to win a welterweight belt unless he has the balls to fight the champion within the weight range of 141-147.

The upper limit is 147. There is no lower limit. You can weigh 108lb if you want to.

the bottom line is that the fight is being fought at one of the weights in the welterweight class so this is a title fight.
