then why does he keep fighting for vacant belts?

      So If

[QUOTE=BIGPOPPAPUMP;5835234]According to WBO president Francisco "Paco" Valcarcel, WBO welterweight champion Miguel Cotto will still have pay a sanctioning fee to the WBO, even if the title is not on the line against Manny Pacquiao on November 14 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Cotto, as champion, has to pay the WBO a minimum of $1,000 and a max of $150,000.

So if someone, say Haye, magically gets elevated to #1 contender for the WBO heavyweight belt he can insist on a catch weight of, say 210lbs, and if Wlad doesn't agree he loses the title?

The maximum weight for Jnr Welterweight is 140.

But a 140lb fighter can fight for a Welterweight title if he wants to and if he can get a fight. There is no lower limit, only an upper limit. Try reading the WBO rules. I've linked to them several times, but

Henry Armstrong only weighed 133lb when he won the Welterweight title and weighed less than 140lb in most of his defences.

The rule that WBO is trying to impose is an old rule that a division champion needs to adhere. The sanctioning fees are as old as the organizations itself weather it's WBA, WBC, IBF, WBO... etc. WBO cannot bend the rule just because your idol is too cheap to pay for it.

As a boxing fan you need to appreciate that both fighters are willing to face each other to give us good entertainment but bitching, crying, moaning and getting emotional about how much a fighter are paying for taxes and sanctioning fees are not your ****ing business. Elite fighters like Cotto hired lawyers who are capable to tackle those issues.

You idiots needs to learn how to read.

Cotto will have to pay according to the WBO if he wants to keep his title, even tho he dont puts it on the line.

Cotto can just vacate the thing and tell them to **** off!!!!!!!!!!!!
