I hear what you guys are saying. If cotto had won against margarito he would have taken a huge step toward having that nationwide following. He can still achieve that if he beats Margarito in june, and then eventually Pacquiao/Mayweather if that ever happens. Cotto is one of the best boxers out there, one loss doesn't change anything unless the fighter ALLOWS it to change him. I think Cotto has too much pride to allow that.

Can someone say "pretty boy floyd"..

The fight was close indeed. It would have gone either way, but Tony was coming out stronger in the end, and the end is what counts.

Great fight, but I dissagree about 7 minutes. Cotto would've lost a UD probably by a point or 2. Remember he was hurt in rounds 2 and 7 and 11. The second round he ate a BIG ass right hand, which only Kellerman caught, and so did I, but yea.

So when people say he quit i have to disagree, to quit is to not even try and change circumstance, lie down and let **** happen, Cotto tried but Margarito resisted
You quit when you go to a knee WITHOUT EVEN GETTING HIT If thats not quitting then I don't know what is.

you say that like he hadnt taken any punishment before hand. he didnt get hit to go down but at certain points your body goes into survival mode and refuses to allow itself to take anymore punishment thats why its impossible to kill yourself by holding your breath

Hes a good fighter but come man the guy quit....he backed away then just went to a knee. He couldn't take the punishment so he quit...its as simple as that.

Cotto was so close and he would of been a better face of boxing imo. He's younger than Manny and Manny has already indicated that his career is over soon.
                    i agree with this...

The language issue was even being worked on by cotto (as he conducted more and more interviews in english; shows he really was trying to fit in with the american boxing public).

I really thought cotto was going to be the new face of boxing and the new undisputed champ at WW...

i had him whooping margarito bad through 7...i think i had cotto winning all but one or two rounds up until that point...

thats when he got tired and tried to slug it out with margarito in hopes of putting him away and it just didnt work...

I think cotto's BIGGEST flaw in that fight was he didnt work the body enough. Lets face it; he gave margarito his best to the head (and they were some tremendous blows) but margarito wasnt bothered by it very much...at best he buzzed him a few times but never dazed or hurt him...

If they ever rematch (which i think they SHOULD) if cotto uses the EXACT same gameplan as he did in the first 7 rounds of the first fight WITH THE EXCEPTION of using a little better defense and evasive tactics (rather than just get on the bike) AND he works the body...he can win a clear cut SD or close UD over margarito.

He has the talent and the skill...his endurace/stamina was what failed him...if it held up i have no doubt he would have won a clear decision over margarito.

He's still pretty young and has some chances to rise to the top...

he can start with beating margarito in a rematch. Use that good boxing technique and work the body.

After that he can pretty much call the shots and unify at 147...(which i believe he can if he gets past margarito).

and go on to face say a pacman or a hatton (if hatton is still around by that time).

he has a lot of chances for greatness but it all starts with margarito...if he cant win the rematch he's looking at a long hard road to the top...
