I'm a NuYorican so naturally I was absolutely heartbroken when Cotto lost. I remember me and my family just standing there in the living room of my cousins house. We didn't really say much for about 5 minutes. Then we had to get out of the house and clear our heads with beer and cigarettes (which I don't normally do). I was afraid the whole fight that while Cotto looked fantastic early on, that he would not be able to keep up that pace. And sure enough thats what happened.

I had the fight at a draw if Cotto would have survived to the end, but no point in speculating now, it didn't happen. I think in the next fight Cotto will have to work on his conditioning more and just stay outside and box. He already showed the ability to box circles around Margarito, he just couldn't keep up against the pressure. Going into that fight I wasn't sure if Cotto could knock out frankenstien Margarito, and, sadly I was right. You can bet he won't go into the next fight trying to knock Margarito out (as much as you know he wants to).

Those who say "WTF Cotto didn't go to the body!!" I've just got one thing to say- go into a ring with someone who can throw a good uppercut, and try to work them to the body. If you think you can fire body shots at will and not get nailed, then you got another thing coming. Body shots leave you a bit exposed.Things look at lot different when you're watching a fight happen as opposed to FIGHTING in one. If he said he didn't see an opportunity to throw those body shots, I believe him.

The rematch will be a crazy fight and I hope Cotto can do it. I know that he will train his ass off to try and get it done. Sorry for the long post

        Thank you raycorey.

NAPO, you need to re-read my post. Like I said. The fight with Cotto and Oscar would have been built around the fact that you have this 'undefeated' rising superstar, against the aging hall of fame fighter.

It would have been sort of a passing of the torch, so to speak.

I am not writing Cotto off as a fighter in any way, shape, or form. I am a Cotto fan, and I enjoy watching the guy fight.

Also, like I said, Cotto's fanbase seems to be limited to the East Coast. He hardly has a West Coast following, and for someone who is supposed to be the next 'face of boxing'...you would think he would have a bit more universal appeal.

Manny has universal appeal because of his demeanor, and his style of fighting.

Also, to people who were fans of him and left him after this fight. **** you, 1 loss on your record doesn't mean your career is over (unless you allow it to get to you). It just means hes not afraid to fight a top welterweight, unlike some other guys out there.

remember pacquiao lost to morales an then beat his ass twice,2 years later pacquiao has become the face of boxing.

being unbeaten is a really good part of the game, but having achivements is something ppl will look after.

and i disagree that cotto has a "limited" east cost fan base cotto could go to states like NY,NJ,MASS,CONN,and florida and could sell seats.

Its simple why his fan base is on the east. He's Puerto Rican and there are a lot more of us on the Eastern side of the US. In the West, there are a lot more Mexicans who will obviously be more supportive of Welterweights like Margarito. I think Cotto was beginning to become more known to boxing fans of other races across America and the world, but getting knocked out put a halt on that. Now a lot of people are just saying he's done. I think it was ******ed to have that fight on the West Coast with all of Margarito's fans, though. Cotto was the champ! MSG Baby, the Mecca of Boxing!

Pacquiao's popularity didn't depend on him being undefeated.

                Cotto's did.

He had already lost before the loss to Morales. And he has shown vulnerability throughout his career. Thats part of why people are intrigued with him.

But, I have to disagree...NY,NJ, MASS, CONN, and Florida are all on the Easter part of the US...mostly on the east coast, except for Florida.

In his only fight in Vegas, he did not have a large contention. The crowd was almost all Margarito.

No doubt. I never said Cotto wasn't or could not ever be a great fighter.

The thread was arguing that Cotto was 7 minutes away from being the 'face of boxing'.

I totally disagree with that point.

Plus, Cotto is hardly a household name here on the West Coast...and theres no way you can be the face of any sport unless you at least have a nationwide following.
