I really thought cotto was going to be the new face of boxing and the new undisputed champ at WW...

i had him whooping margarito bad through 7...i think i had cotto winning all but one or two rounds up until that point...

thats when he got tired and tried to slug it out with margarito in hopes of putting him away and it just didnt work...

I think cotto's BIGGEST flaw in that fight was he didnt work the body enough. Lets face it; he gave margarito his best to the head (and they were some tremendous blows) but margarito wasnt bothered by it very much...at best he buzzed him a few times but never dazed or hurt him...

If they ever rematch (which i think they SHOULD) if cotto uses the EXACT same gameplan as he did in the first 7 rounds of the first fight WITH THE EXCEPTION of using a little better defense and evasive tactics (rather than just get on the bike) AND he works the body...he can win a clear cut SD or close UD over margarito.

He has the talent and the skill...his endurace/stamina was what failed him...if it held up i have no doubt he would have won a clear decision over margarito.

He's still pretty young and has some chances to rise to the top...

he can start with beating margarito in a rematch. Use that good boxing technique and work the body.

After that he can pretty much call the shots and unify at 147...(which i believe he can if he gets past margarito).

and go on to face say a pacman or a hatton (if hatton is still around by that time).

he has a lot of chances for greatness but it all starts with margarito...if he cant win the rematch he's looking at a long hard road to the top...
Are you serious? I'm not sure but I think Margarito was up on the scorecards by that time.

Cotto was already gassed and had taken extreme punishment. He gave up because his body gave up, not because he wanted to. Cotto did indeed try to fight back, but his body aint let him. When you fight back that shows a lot, Cotto tried and he failed. His body failed, he was done.

If you are not sure, then you aren't. Cotto had a almost comfortable lead early in the fight with his high connect rate and boxing ablity. It's towards the end and in round 7 where Cotto got hurt bad by combination punches from Tony which gave Tony hope to catch up and it did, in fact KO'ed Cotto.

welll.. checkmania.. have a point...... if cotto... have beat margo... it would have played like this.....

            cotto vs dlh
cotto vs may..... and things would have been just way different...

so.. i do agree.. that he was about to being the boxing face.. but got to disagree with you on the 7 minutes away thing..

this was my scorecard of that fight..

He was so damn close. It's alright though. Hopefully he'll win the rematch.

Cotto was on his way to superstar status, but I wouldn't call it the face of boxing. The demand for a fight with Floyd would be huge if Cotto had won though.

I think Pavlik was supposed to be the next face of boxing. If he would have taken an easy fight, instead of a fight with Hopkins, it would set up a huge, more meaningful fight with Abraham.

Either way Arum is pissed, but Cotto and Pavlik are still young and can get back to where they were.
