What version of Hopkins is better than the 2008 version. Not the one beating blown up welterweights tito and De La Hoya, or looking **** against bums like Howard Eastman.
The young, faster, harder punching Calzaghe who beat Chris Eubank would have beaten Hopkins easier.

You might be right if Calzaghe didn't slap like a girl. Slapzaghe would have had to borrow Margacheato's plaster if he wanted any chance against Hopkins in his prime.

I'd love to know when people think Hopkins' prime was. The time often cited is the fight against Trinidad and it is usually followed by the claim that Calzaghe couldn't live with him. Well, I'm sorry, but I find that very hard to believe.

I think the Trindad fight was towards the end of Hopkins prime. His Prime started I believe after he won the title and continued to improve from there. I thought I noticed some slippage staring with the Joppy fight.

If only Calzaghe was in his prime when he thought Bernard.

Hopkins from 1999-2002 is the best fighter, prime-wise, in this argument.

I think Hopkins 'best' time was around the Tito Trinidad fight, he had developed his skills, but still was fresh, it was because of his age he has had to adapt, fighting at a slower pace, not going all out. Calzaghe was at his prime years too, if you look at his fights before Lacy etc, he had injuries, and looked pretty poor in some fights. I still reckon that Hopkins had done enough in thier fight to win, but Hopkins style sometimes goes again him. Peak vs Peak, I think Hopkins wins.
