he was getting pasted by a class of guy who couldn't hold his jock in his prime.

mathysse would make cano look like a cabbie, to be completely fair.

morales won a green leather belt on saturday. nothing more.
they reportedly called and asked 100 fighters to fight morales for the "world title" before cano was contacted and agreed. he was probably the only guy able to make the weight because he's so young.
talk about earning your title shot.

actually, with the sanctioning fees you have to pay...
    he bought it.

lucas mathysse would be a nightmare for last saturday erik morales

It's a meaningless win created to GIVE a paper title to a Jose Sulaiman hand picked champion based on his nationality and popularity. The word that comes to mind when thinking of the WBC is shameful.

No prospect is a capable or worth challenger until they beat somebody.

Exactly, so this fight cannot be considered anything else except a farce. If Cano goes on to have a decent career the fight is still meaningless because at THIS point. The combined record for his career opponents is 181-117. Take Morales off that list and it drops dramatically to 130-110. The truth is, this kid is hardly even a prospect at this point and was handpicked to GIVE the belt to Morales.

Everybody prospect has a step up fight. Its ******ed to act like they its a farce.

Also how was Cano handpicked? Matthysse dropped out of the fight, how many proven contenders do you think there are that will fight on 2 weeks notice?

So where was his step up fight before Morales? Go check the records of his opponents. Than go check the records of his opponents opponents. None have fought any top comp or even top 100 rated opponents in the division. I'd say it's much more ******ed to act like this fight had any real meaning. It was a joke perpetrated by a crooked and pathetic boxing organization. No more, no less.

That isn't the point. The fight should have never been sanctioned as a world title fight until two credible opponents could fight for the title. But the WBC wanted Morales to win that title and more importantly they wanted those sanctioning fee's no matter how much of a FARCE this fight really was. If the WBC had any dignity they would have left their paper title vacant until it had TWO fighters worthy to fight for it.

he'd fight a bulldozer if the money was good and he felt it would defend the honor of mexico.

the "World title" is still a joke, though

JAB, remember you're trying to reason with someone who thinks Whitaker wasn't robbed against Chavez. BTW, helluva game by Romo yesterday, the best I've ever seen him play

No I meant if Erik would have beaten Lucas for the belt, it would have been legendary.

Um, Jorge Arce already did that.

                      WBC Light Flyweight Champion
                      Interim WBC Flyweight Champion
                      Interim WBA Super Flyweight Champion
                      WBO Super Flyweight Champion
                      WBO Super Bantamweight Champion

Hate on the Interim WBC Flyweight belt all you want but considering the guys he beat in those interim title matches compared to Pablo Cano, it's a hell of a lot more legit.
