Marciano beat Ali up and dropped him for a 5 minute count, prompting Ali to demand 2000 dollars cash to continue sparring with him. Ali was seen sporting welts all over his body by proudly showing them off at a restaurant. Ali was said to say he could barely lift his arms after working with Marciano. He said Marciano was surprisingly hard to hit with the jab and had his own style that nobody could teach. He said he would be the hardest guy to beat, that he’s better than Joe Frazier , the man who beat him. That he may not have won against Marciano.

Ali demanded the tapes burned.

Can’t be argued now, soon every should wake up and see the brilliance and greatness of Marciano.

I cannot buy into idol-worshiping apocrypha. That is the typical syrup boxers laud former champions with. I was not at a restaurant, I didn't see any bruises, I didn't see Ali demand $2,000 for sparring, I only heard about it 9th hand, like you.

Rocky trained down to about 210lbs and Ali was prob 230. Rocky fought in a very underrated style as Charles, Walcott, and most esp Archie found out.

Net result the tourney being computer generated generated huge interest as Louis, Jeffries, Dempsey, ect all fell out and earned the living luminaries some extra Buck$ not to be sneered at.

And Ali and Rocky became friends with Ali painting Rocky's name on one of the big boulders at his training camp. He also attended Rock's funeral and passed along some $$$ to his widow who was left impoverished since Rock kept all his money not in his pockets squirreled away in some buried site that only he knew about.

That and Tubby Lar who dropped Rocky's jock strap on his big feets to bust up his stoopid record....

In regards to the original 1967 Computer Tournament, Joe Louis defeated Jack Dempsey in the finals.

Since neither Louis nor Dempsey could possibly recreate the fight for video, they simply switched the fighters to Marciano and Ali, but continued to promote the "Super Fight" as the tournament's result. It didn't matter though, for few knew or cared about the switch, as only real geeks like me, at12 years, ever really paid much attention to the radio broadcasts. I was the only one of my friends who was interested.

Of course all of my friends had an opinion on the 'video' bout. It was well promoted and I believe made money.

The only other result I can remember off the top of my head was Ali scoring a UD over Schmeling.

Does anyone have the original tournament brackets and results?

P.S. My father, and Italian-American from the generation (WWII) watched one round with me, when it was finally broadcast for free.

I suspect I was not clear regarding the two posts I was referencing.

You are BOTH CORRECT.

The fight had no connection to the original Computer fights except in a common producer who was pushed aside by more monied outside producers.

On the other hand, the public all talked about the fight as if it was the final conclusion of a grand 'Computer Tournament' even if it was never directly connected to it, nor had they heard a single bout on the radio.

Keep in mind, this was a time when we were in awe of the word 'Computer.'

As an Italian American I would love to say Marciano wins, but I don't think he does. Ali was bigger faster and stronger than Charles who gave Marciano fits in their first. Is it a walkover? I doubt it. But I do think Ali wins a UD.
