Its not an easy instance to come up with because there werenâÂÂt many fighters on his level. At lightweight in my honest opinion, I think he would stay in close vicinity with armstrong for most of the match - with armstrong helping this scenario play out.

I still donâÂÂt know if armstrong beats Duran, I am mostly just playing the devils advocate here because people will pick a certain fighter without much thought. But an iron chin and a+ baiting headmovement gotta amount to something. The other guys Duran was fighting werent using this.
RE Bold: According to SRL it was Duran that showed him how to beat Hagler. 'Make Hagler come to you.'

Duran backed-up from Hagler most of the night. Making it difficult for the counter-punching Hagler to find his rhythm.

Then later employed by Leonard to perfect.

What I asked for was an example of Duran being ****** into a brawl when he should not have been brawling. You are implying that he can be ****** into a brawl when it is not most beneficial to him. Show me. You must have one such example. Do you call fighting aggressively brawling? I think fighting aggressively was usually his best shot, and therefore he was employing the correct strategy when he did brawl.

Armstrong was lauded as perhaps the best ever for a reason... Whoa to those who think he just charges in... which would be the equivalent of saying Horowitz just had a good piano. Armstrong used head movement extensively, he very deliberately knew where to place his head on an opponent, and was a veritable buzz saw. At 135 Armstrong isn't beautiful... heck he never was at any weight lol... But if anyone beats him in a15 round contest, or anything over... well there are only a handful.

Armstrong is one of the few I pick to beat Duran at 140 and below. Leonard, or Robinson, maybe Sweet Pea, are perhaps the only that could better Armstrong at 140, or below. Duran's problem would be the constant pressure, it would eventually make him very hittable. Armstrong could take the shots and deliver his own consistently. Duran, as talented as he was, never faced pressure like Armstrong. Sweet Pea had the legs to move the entire fight, ditto for leanard... Robinson had the legs, and the punch of Duran...

I see a fight where Duran , especially early, is landing textbook Beautiful shots... Armstrong then hits Duran with 4 mauling shots of his own... Duran starts trying to tie Armstrong up after hitting, bit mistake, as Armstrong places head on side of Duran and goes to work pushing Duran back and constantly hitting him to the body.

In a modern 12 round fight, Duran could win, Mayweather, only at 135 or below, might outpoint him... But at his best, in a 15 round plus fight, Armstrong was Homicidal! Homicidal Hank!

No offense to anyone in particular... Offense to all!!! But people could use a little refresher on Armstrong. A lot of stuff I am reading is cringe.

LOOK at the head movement! And LOOK at the KO%,

the only comparable head movement? Might Be Nicola Locke.

Barney Ross one of the best.

He’s majorly underrated on this forum. Its a pity the footage of him is mediocre

Yeah you are right Duran did rather box in this match.

I guess to play devils advocate, was he effective? Yes and no I would think. Its hard to judge that fight because of the circumstances.
