Does the larger Joe Joyce crush the Joe Louis of 1939? 1939 Louis was about 200 pounds give or take and today, you have cruisers larger than that on fight night. You can also argue that Joyce was better than Galento.

Ok fair points.
Joe Louis prime weight was 205.
louis is in an era where you train down in weight. These guys often hit 300+ lbs when they retire.
joe Joyce is heavier and bigger, but Louis is just sharper more skillful and is likely gonna catch Joycr cold.
louis is a thoroughbred 205. Like hagler is a thoroughbred 160. Louis is strong, lighter than Joyce but stronger in a holyfield type way.
galento knocked Louis down because Louis didnt take him seriously and Galento is sneaky. Joyce hasnt fought anyone with any type of guts or danger so we cant say if hes any better than Galento. In what Joyce does in keeping his hands up and elbows tucked looking well trained, Galento does by looking right through him andd going for a sneaky home run with no respect and bad intentions every single round, even while catching a beating.
thats why its harder to compare fighters from different eras. Because guts and heart matter. Whenever someone today shows an inkling of heart they get called a throwback for a reason.
and the skills that people dont see in a guy like Galento are often overlooked because he doesnt have a trained look. But him being 5 ft 8 at heavyweight and crouching even lower when coming in is a complete nightmare for a taller fighter, especially when the guy down there is stronger than youLast edited by them_apples; 10-25-2021, 11:05 PM.
