supposedly to make the kids think of different ways to figure something out or something to that extent.... its ******. 2x2 =4 no matter how you slice it.... so why make it difficult? imo

no joke man, I showed my son how I solve %, multiply and add and subtract all in my head and he says it is so much easier the way I showed him without even writing anything down

        what do ya think?
it is 65. 19 people left and that gives you 46. but they aren't asking you how many people were left in the train once those 19 guys got off. they are asking you how many were in the beginning.

is more of a reading comprehension problem imo

          Really?

Can you write out the equation for us?

          for example I think its:

          X+19-17=63

          solve for x

not sure how old everyone else is, but I was born in the 80s, in grade school when had to do these in 3-5 minutes, I cant even imagine how long it would take kids today to solve for this

I'm born in 81 and yeah that stuff was crammed down our throats as kids. My gf and her friends are born closer to the 90's and their math is absolutely terrible. They couldn't even answer 7x8 off the top of their heads and they're both graduate students.

The question is "how many people were on the train to begin with?"

saying 46 plus the 17 people that got on would make it 63 people total now

however, the 19 that got off would now make it 27 people now on the train.

simple, the difference in people getting on and off is (-2) meaning 2 more people got off than got on, so if there are now 63, then 63+2=65

or you can do 65-19=46, 46+17=63 63 is how many people are now on
huh? You lost me there a sec...... 65-19=46.... thats after the 1st stop where you do the -19.

yes that is what they are asking....

X amount of people were on the train at the beginning
19 people got off the train in the 1st stop
17 people get on on that same stop
there is 63 total people now...

HOW MANY PEOPLE WERE IN THE TRAIN AT THE BEGINNING!?

imo that translates to X-19+17= 65

how do some of ya not even include the 19 is beyond me
