While both the first two Terminator films are excellent, there's no getting away from the fact that at the end of the day they were both Arnie vehicles, and honestly I think he's too iconic and his image is too integral to the franchise to not have him there. Of course, there's also no getting away from the fact that he's now an old man and his continued presence in these films is kind of laughable. It's a catch-22 that there's no escaping from, plus the franchise has numerous other problems, primarily the fact that its continuity is an utter mess with no option to untangle it. Also I really think that Hollywood has just lost its touch and is probably incapable of making an action film of the calibre of T2 anymore without making it a soulless CG-fest. Really all of this just means that it's time to put the series down and make something new instead. Of course this will never happen because the brand is worth too much money, and they'll probably keep making Terminator movies with Arnie until he dies (and probably afterwards with the aid of CGI.) Terminator is just one of those sci-fi action series that were great in the 80s and 90s but probably need to be taken out back and old-yeller'd now, along with Alien, Predator, Jurassic Park and perhaps even Star Wars at this point.

As an aside, while both are incredible films, I prefer Terminator 1 to Terminator 2. T2 is a much more impressive action film but T1 works better as a sci-fi horror film, which I prefer. I think it mostly boils down to the fact that Arnie was better as an evil Terminator than a good guy Terminator to me.

For one they lack a horror element that made the first so special

Secondly they kept telling the exact same story which adds no intrigue or excitement.

It went wrong as soon as they started making female terminators. It doesn't make any sense.

Ever since Terminator 2, Hollywood has released a bunch of Terminator movies, weather its T3 or that pure trash that was Genysis, none of them, event he latest movie Dark Fate felt like it had a spark of originality. The terminators became extremely over powered to the point of being god like, which made it very difficult to believe that the original T800 model stood any chance against them.

I just wish that Hollywood did a Terminator movie in the essence of the first two, in other words a stronger concentration on the plot and storyline, and stayed away from the super crazy god like terminators. Keep it simple, the original T800 was already a stretch of the imagination, no need to go full ******.

Also stop bringing back Arnold! I know he is the face of Terminator and as iconic as that may be, he is now a relic of the past. Talk about beating a dead horse, let him sail away into the sunset and revamp the series with fresh faces, with concentration on the plot over the Boom! Kaboom! Whoosh! Thanos like Terminators.
Part 1 and 2 were more of sci-fi horror like Alien. Part 1 more so than 2; however, after that, it just can't decide what he wants to be.

Funny how Hobbs and Shaw felt more terminator than terminator. Or, maybe it's because of my bias wanting to see any mix of The Rock, Vin Diesel and Idris play the terminator's villain and Hero.

This^^. Since the rise of machines is a prophecy and seems inevitable, they should have continued the storyline into the eventually war for survival between humans and the machines. Keep changing things and having terminators coming back, will be lost on novelty and stuck on predictability.

                    Get woke go broke.

Trying to alienate your fans never goes well. They tried making this movie a girl power, women rule movie, and it backfired.

Look at Charlies Angels, the old series and the 2000 movies were aimed at both men and women. (women wanted to be like them, men wanted them), this new one, the director herself said this movie wasn't for men, so they nor women showed up. And she of course blamed men for not showing up and the movie bombing.

James Bond is next to bomb. Count on it.
