Add in TV and you have a romping victory for the Brits.
My personal favourites are Carr, Gervais, Corbett, Evans and one of the best ever in Coogan.
I'd rate Connolly in a top 20 comedians of all time list, but not a top 10. Gervais also does nothing for me, but to each his own. Comedy is subjective anyway.

I reserve 'hero' status for people who do more than pedal round a track fast. People who go above and beyond the ordinary call of duty of merely existing. Heroes are people who eat iguanas. People like Lucas Matthysse.

"British" is not another word for "English", it's anyone from Britain, ie. England, Scotland, Wales. Plus some bits of Ireland.
I appreciate you're a great big fat ****ing Fat Yank, so I'll let you off.

Right now my top three stand ups, no order:
* Chris Rock
* Frankie Boyle (not British, apparently)
* Stewart Lee.

Are you serious about Chris Rock though? Granted he had some funny bits, but I'm quite familiar with his career and most of it has been "black people do this" and "white people do this" bits.
I prefer a bit more social commentary and depth to my comedy. Carlin and Hicks being key examples of that preference.

is unfortunate because his comment "if you've never thought about murdering someone, you've never been in love" is classic and true.

Regarding the video you posted - He's absolutely on point and it hurts to say that.
Bill Burr and Louis C.K are the only active American comics worth a **** these days. Lewis Black too, to a lesser extent. Overall though the entire artform has degraded to what I think is a point of no return.
Even worse than the types of comedians Lee lampoons in that video is this new breed of supposed "comedians" whose entire act revolves around silly songs played on a guitar or piano.
It was funny when Flight of the Concords first started doing it but, much like popular music, it's become oversatured and played out.
If I wanted to listen to a marginally funny person with average musical abilities sing songs, I'd go to a Weird Al concert.
