    No, it's not.

Americans do have a greater stand-up pedigree, but the genius of our greatest TV comedy (The Office, Alan Partridge) cannot be equalled.
Yeah, I'm speaking purely in terms of stand-up here. As far as television comedy goes, I'll concede that point quite easily. The only things on American television that make me consistently laugh are 'South Park', 'The Daily Show', and 'Curb Your Enthusiasm.'

I think British stand up is better than American, the US highlight are brief (admittedly very bright) but I'd rate guys like Evans, Connelly, Gervais (his stand up shows are hilarious), Boyle and co as better than most American stand ups.
Add in TV and you have a romping victory for the Brits.

My personal favourites are Carr, Gervais, Corbett, Evans and one of the best ever in Coogan.

A list of UK comedians compiled by a Schneller?

I'm surprised Bat didn't follow his idol Mikkel and look to quit before the poll was completed.

            Dude, it really IS.

"British" is not another word for "English", it's anyone from Britain, ie. England, Scotland, Wales. Plus some bits of Ireland.

I appreciate you're a great big fat ****ing Fat Yank, so I'll let you off.

The United Kingdom includes Northern Ireland.

British refers to the Island of Britain, which does not include Northern Ireland.

You're just mad that your hero Chris Hoy had to receive his Olympic medals to God Save The Queen .

Chris Hoy is not my hero nor do I invest much emotion at all, if any, in national pride.

I reserve 'hero' status for people who do more than pedal round a track fast. People who go above and beyond the ordinary call of duty of merely existing. Heroes are people who eat iguanas. People like Lucas Matthysse.
