I have a real question. Serious question. How many people have been banned multiple times for various reason? Usually someone gets banned for a month. Makes an alt in the meantime, and then comes back. Gets banned again, posts with the alt, back again.

How many permanent bans were handed out before ProBox take over? I’m guessing not many.

Sports forums have been dying since around 2015 so it's surprising Boxing Scene has lasted this long.

The site’s not as good as it used to be, but I think something is better than nothing and there are some (albeit very few) posters here that contribute good content or fodder for discussion.

The AI went through wit certain target words and phrases and it indiscriminately banned posters and some too harsh. They banned Jose, a poster that never got into a spat with anyone and was always respectful. Santa is another good poster and got banned for some time and that dude is very respectful.

I went down a trip memory lane sifting through my old posts, inbox messages with bets I used to make with several members back in the day (12-15 years ago) and then I started wondering if anybody knows about some posters who show up as being online here around 2-3 years ago (or even recently) but haven’t posted in ages. I see and have read the tributes made to posters like Walt, Samurai, Larry (I remember him as the resident “Floyd fan”) and others.

I dunno, man. It’s a weird feeling. I have never met these people in my life in person and yet I associate them strongly with perspectives/boxers over the dozens if not hundreds of texts I used to read more often back when I first started out here (midway through college).

I’m sure some from the old guard is here, but if they are, I haven’t recognized them (at least not yet) as I’ve gotten back into posting in the last year or so. I think there was a period between military service and getting out where I went AWOL from this site for maybe 4 years completely, then I went back to lurking for maybe 2-3 years and now I’m an active poster again but it doesn’t FEEL like I’ve been here that long and it’s coming up on 20 in 2007.

Anyway, some recent newly minted poster here that started anywhere between a year ago to three years ago is going to look at this and say, “What in the flying ‘fool’ is this guy talking about?”

For those that have been here long enough and remember, thank you, brothers! This site is special, and it was even more special back then (bets, no censorship, etc.)

To any of the old school reading this, nothing but love, fellas!

Damn, Reddit. I think it’s a hilarious website because of the crazy **** you read but I don’t think you can get attached to it (and its personalities) as you would as something that’s focused primarily on one thing and one thing only (like it is here on boxing).

Also, the message boards in my opinion serve as a sort of tangible window into people’s thoughts, expressions and outlooks of the time.

I can literally look up posts from 2011-2014 and see people bashing fighters for ducking xyz only for those same posters (looking back in retrospect) to be completely off point and have their mouths shut.

Ya’ll remember when the entire boxing community (myself included not taking into account how De La Hoya hadn’t made 147 in nearly a decade) thought Pacquiao was going to get demolished for jumping up in weight and instead of what began was an epic run?

Check_hooks was the biggest Pacquiao fan here (not sure if he’s still around) and he led the crusade on him.
