It’s why Canelo is the face of boxing and not Terence Crawford.
Since you think articles with one opinion proves your point (even though your article didn't even say what you claimed)....

I don't even know if Canelo is still the face of boxing. When he was, it's because he had consistently exciting performances. CC is a rookie with a large following that is somewhat due to people like you wanting to use her for your agenda.

Based on merit, the face of the WNBA clearly should be A'ja Wilson. Agreed or nah?
Again, being the face of the sport and being the best in the sport are not the same thing.

Wilson can’t be the face of the WNBA because she is not more popular or more marketable than Caitlin Clark. She didn’t even have her own shoe until this year. Caitlin got her shoe deal first, as a rookie.

That is your opinion. Which is why I said there is AN ARGUMENT that A'ja Wilson is the face of the WNBA. She has accomplished far more in the WNBA than CC obviously and is still the best player today. I believe the face of the league should be the best player. Part of Clark's popularity and marketability are for reasons that have nothing to do with her actual performance.

You were talking about non-controversial takes, or something like that. Well A'ja Wilson being the face of the WNBA is indeed not a controversial take. There are many, many, many who feel that way.

Even if you don’t think Canelo is the face of boxing anymore it still isn’t Terence Crawford. Which just goes to show that being the best in the sport is not always the same as being the face of the sport.

Who the face of the sport is, is not an opinion. It should be pretty clear for anyone to tell who it is.

I think that's obvious if CC is the face of the WNBA. Again, I said there is an argument that it's really Wilson.

Who do you think deserves to be the face of the WNBA based on performance?

Well like I just showed you, there was just an article 5 days ago that disagrees with you. Sounds like it's an opinion to me.

No one heard of her until she screwed up and got arrested overseas. To deny Clark is the face of the WNBA is delusional and rooted in an agenda. We all know what the agenda is, and Clark has the bruises to prove it.
I think you mean nobody on the political spectrum you, shoulder and others occupy didn’t care. That would be accurate as the WNBA could never connect with you guys demographic.

Griner was never more popular than Candace Parker, Diana Taurasi, or Sue Bird . She just made headlines because of what happened to her.

I don’t think there is any question she has become the face of the league.

Why would you expect her to be treated differently than any other high profile rookie by the vets?

You are quick to point out the rules Jaded posted about politics when someone else gets banned for it or posts something political. How about you try following your own lecture and stop making this thread about politics. You do this all the time, race and politics, you're obsessed.

That was my point regarding Griner. Prior to Clark, no one was talking about any single player in the league other than Griner and that was because of her arrest. So called fans such as yourself have found a negative angle to spin Clark's popularity instead of being happy for the league overall.

I did that once to answer a question. Stop over exaggerating about that.

The post isn’t about politics. What I posted is something literally every show that had talked about Clark has mentioned when discussing her expanding the fan base in both college and pros.

You’re the one obsessed. You aren’t knowledgeable enough about the sport ( by your own admission ) to realize my point is just an observation of fact, made by many people, regardless of spectrum. It was not an attempt to delve into politics. Relax. Try having a nuanced, educated discussion.

Your point is true as I said. It alap indicates you don’t have much history following the WNBA outside of national news stories.

You and the people I mentioned in my post, do not have a history of watching women’s basketball. People like Clay Travis, Hannity , etc , never commented about the sport. Same for posters like you, outside of Griner.

Clark has expanded the fan base into that demographic, in addition to raising the profile among the groups that have watched. That wasn’t a bad thing until the politicization began. Now that aspect has subsided, it’s just about growing the game.

Where have I spun anything negatively about Clark?

The only negative has been the addition of the type of fans that bring the agenda that Clark herself has flat out rejected, saying she wants no part of their agenda.
