What do all you viscous name calling haters have to say to us now? You have to keep lying because the whole house of cards crumbles. Covid, the vax, the mandates.

lol yea i put that in the omicron thread, they will never admit it doesnt work well though. will be some sort of weird warped logic is to why the vaccine is actually brilliant or they will say maybe the fridges didnt store them at the right temperature in the trial or some bull****

No it doesn't. Firstly the fact that existing vaccines designed to combat earlier versions of the virus are only slightly useful at preventing the spread of Omicron in no way negates the effectiveness they've already shown against both spreading and preventing seripous illness against earlier variants nor does it negate the millions of lives that have already been saved globally.

Besides, when the COVID response strategy was being devised and the original vaccines developed no one had a crystal ball. Nations around the globe were operating on the basis of the information available to them at the time and attempting to resolve the immediate situation not trying to guess what would happen a year or 18 months down the line. Ask any military or crisis planner about prioritsation of needs man.

Secondly whilst they do indeed seem to offer little reduction in transmission rates they do continue to very significantly reduce the already low likelihood of getting seriously ill or dying of Omicron in the the immune naive (those who are both never infected and never vaccinated).

That said if you ain't already vaccinated there's probably less reason to do so now than there has ever been in the past 13 months so if you held out this long it's hard to see why you'd change your mind now. It's still not guaranteed but it's looking increasingly likely that we're going be arriving at endemicity for COVID - or approaching it - over the course of this year.

And as for 'vicious haters' whilst you yourself have generally been pretty civil and I do my level best to maintain a courteous relationship with everyone, the same can't be said for many who share your beliefs... number of times I've been called a brainwashed moron or a cultist or even been accused of supporting infanticide or promoting genocide.... ain't like the absue is a one way strret man.

Demonstrably vaccines have reduced the likelihood of serious illnes or death by about 80 - 90% amongst those who do get COVID and also very significantly reduced transmission rates in the earlier variants. You can do the maths yourself, or I can throw up some back of envelope calculations for you if you like? My initial hunch would be somewhere in the 1 - 2 million range although it could be much higher dependent on how you factor in the transmission reduction. Perhaps 'milions' - as in many million - would be overstating it, but not necessarily.
