I think I only saw him twice at the Olympics but I saw him live when they played at Old Trafford and he put on probably the best individual performance I've seen in person since maybe Aguero's debut. Was only against Belarus like, but still.
Did you not watch him tear the GB team apart in the warm up game for the olympics?
I watched the England one can't really remember it. Then when Chelsea signed Oscar I started looking at the Brazil games and for me Oscar always seems to look like the better player in the games I've watched but Oscar I can imagine being successful in any team, whereas Neymar just seems like a show pony to me. Different positions and players but Oscar is the one I'd take from the current Brazil team.
Ronaldo was in the prem at that age so for every one Neymar game people are probably watching there were about 12 Ronaldo games to watch. Of course Ronaldo would look better.
Ronaldo didn't have any effective skills at that age, all he used to do was stand in front of the fullback doing pointless step-overs for 6-7 seconds. Never used to draw the defender in, never used t affect the game in any way.
Look at this vid. Euro 2004, only a couple of months younger than Neymar is now. Not the amount of times he gives away the ball/tries some crap skill. And this is seen as one of his most notable performances at international level.
Neymar right now is better than Ronaldo was then, easily.
Ronaldo was 19 then, neymar is now 21. Neymar could not do that to a Netherlands team at the age of 21 let alone at the age of 19 on a big footballing tournament.
Joey Barton called Neymar 'the Justin Bieber of football' and I agree with him.
Have to say though, Steven Gerrard is having an appalling game. Nothing about his game is suited to International football. He is pure Roy of the Rovers even at 33.
Carrick should have been an England first teamer for years. The slower pace suits him and he can see a pass. Someone like Scott Parker can only see a pass that is right in front of him.
Wilshere, Carrick, Cleverly is a good, balanced midfield. Stevie G's got to go.
