Originally posted by unit021most likely. i'll prolly pick up a Wii too. but that's all based on my financial situation at that point. i gotta save up for a trip to australia in november. if i do pick up a PS3 at launch, it may go on ebay. depends on what the possible profit factor is. from what i've seen on other forums, most people are gonna wait for a price drop or for the second production generation.

Originally posted by unit021Nope. i wanted retail sales numbers. production and shipped numbers don't mean anything if the units aren't moving and there's no profit being made. i haven't looked at an issue of EGM in a loooooooooong time. my preferred ****zine was Gamefan, but they lost out a while ago. Play seems to be the new generation of Gamefan, but i stopped buying gaming ****zines once i got a better internet connection.
i never said that Sony wouldn't lose a piece of its market, but i think that in the total world market share, Sony will still be in the lead. i understand how dominating Sony is in terms of its market share at the moment, but Nintendo will definitely take some of its market share with the Wii (consumers like new things, and the Wii is new and is very likeable due to its innovation and franchises that can appeal to an older crowd via nostalgia and to the younger crowd for its "cute" factor). i dunno about how well the 360 is doing on the world stage, but from what i've seen, the only place the 360 has really thrived is north America. MS needs to fix that if they want to continue competition. they can't survive just based on the North American consumers.
Here are some numbers.

i dont buy at all that the 360 is gonna do that well outside of NA period
nintendo and playstation both have good handheld devices that have sold very well while xbox has none and i think the handheld devices will influence those gamers to lean toward their respective devices if they are going to buy a console
if i got a ds and enjoy it then itd make sense for me to be swayed toward the wii and same if i got a psp and enjoy it i might be swayed to ps3
both will be connectable to their console counterparts im sure
360 can still do well though with just na but even in na i dont see it selling the most units cause i dont think itll sell more units in any single country so therefore it cant possibly in my mind be better than 2nd place
now if ps3 goes and drops the ball majorly then the 360 may have a shot in the us and perhaps canada but i think the rest of the world would still get the ps3 over 360

maybe Europe, but i doubt anywhere else in Asia. South Korea is too much like Japan to be a viable market for the 360. Australia i can understand, as their market seems very similiar to North America. tho my Australian friends have stated that they're goin whereever Final Fantasy is goin. but that's only 2 people.
it'll be hard for MS to survive just off North America. the Wii has been confirmed to sell in Japan for approximately $222 US. that's close to half of the price of a 360 and close to two thirds the price of a PS3. if price is a concern with consumers in NA, then the Wii is the system for them. if there is an abundant selection of games at launch, which there should be, considering that it was stated that there were 27 launch titles expected, Nintendo is gonna capitalize on the market by aiming at younger audiences who have sway with their parents, the tech field who is amazed by new tech, and the 20 something crowd by using nostalgia. i think those factors combined with price may lead Nintendo to gain a greater share of the market than most would expect and something that they haven't seen since the days of the SNES.
Sony would have to make huge mistakes in order for them not to sell the PS3. i think they've avoided a couple of them already, the system is region free, backwards compatible, has the option of having a wired or wireless controller (via USB 2.0 plug), analog outs, and a disc reader that reads everything from cd-r to blu-ray. not all games are going to be blu-ray, which saves a lot of money for the consumers. the marketing as a media hub can really be true, but the price is pretty crazy in itself. that'll be the biggest hurdle. but people were saying that about the 360 as well when it first came out. the people who bought that system as a bundle (pretty much had no choice) and they spent close to $700 on opening night. people will prolly do the same for the Wii and the PS3.

Uhhh I already posted a link stating that the 360 was the fastest selling launch in Australia and Europe. South Korea’s taste is nothing like Japans. They are already in MS’s pocket because they are PC gamers and because the largest Korean publisher has had an exclusive deal with MS for years. That’s why the Kingdom Underfire games were Xbox exclusives. You know their favorite genre is MMOGs lol.
The 360 has one problem region and that’s Japan. They used to suck in Europe but that ended with Forza, Fable, and WE.
You guys seem to be grasping at straws here. We all agree that the PS 3 will sell the first 5-10 million easy and likely faster then the 360 did, then it’s a new ball game price will matter a lot more after that and 500/600 is a huge difference then 250 and 300/400 especially when the 360 has most of the mainstream games and the graphics will be pretty equal. Selling 10 million fast will not cause them to catch the 360 because the 360 will already have sold 10 million by then.
The people who dropped 700 on the 360 off ebay are not the people that control the market... at least with hardware. They do buy a lot of games.

yeah the first year or two of the ps3 run i agree itll be close between all three consoles
but when ps3 starts rolling out some of their games that the 360 and obviously wii cant handle and when the 360 mods are flowing like crazy by then the ps3 will start to once again greatly separate itself from the pack
people keep focusing on controllers but really i dont think any console sold or didnt sell cause of a damn controller cause therell always be 3rd party people making good controllers for those that arent happy with what the parent company puts out
every friend i got that owns xbox bought a smaller xbox controller cause they didnt like the oversized first controller and a couple friend got both ps2 and gamecube 3rd party controllers
i do prefer the current ps2 controller from sony but i ended up with at least 2 3rd party controllers mainly due to the expensive ass price of sony stuff
sorta broke a couple controllers cause some games damn they are hard and i hate to lose so i ******ly took it out on a couple controllers
on total number of systems to sell i think ps3 and wii will catch xbox360 pretty quick just give both a couple years im telling you
japan dominates electronics and this aint gonna be any different
