There's 20.000ish active boxers in the world man, I could make a strong case that anyone in the top 20 or even 50 could be described as A or A+ on an A to F scale. Course GGG isn't as accomplished as Floyd... not close, but that ain't got anything to do with the point I'm making.

I don't like him but I don't see how you can grade it anything lower than an A+.

He came from a 3rd world country to a $100 mil dollar deal. He will almost surely be regarded as one of the 5-10 best MW's ever when his career is over. He will make the HOF. He developed a strong fan base as he won. He arguably beat Canelo, who will be a 1st ballot HOF'er at least once and in some people's opinion, which I disagree with, twice.

Other than the cash cows and HWT champs, I think any professional would give their right arm to have GGG's career.

What's that got to do with me talking to a buffoon, or indeed my basic and entirely elementary point that this kinda question makes no sense without an agreed upon scale for what constitutes and A and an F? Damn, man, that's all I came on here to say. I don't care whether you grade the dude A or E, we're all entitled to an opinion, I'm just interested in seeing what other people mean by these kindsa grades and how consistent they are with 'em.
Pvssy-g lost to Jacobs, Nelo twice & they say to D-Chenko too..What a career

That's the difference in opinion between us my man. You got it 2-0 I got it 1-1 and GGGdiehards wanna say its 2 zip his way. No matter how you count it I'd watch it again

His resume could undoubtedly have been better, but then whose couldn't? What A - F rank you got on the Mandingo Warrior's career or Avtandil's?

A- / B+. Partially his fault, partially not his fault. He was very hard working and very entertaining who was severely ducked for vast majority of his career (Felix Sturm in Germany 2011? through Canelo 2017).

However he definitely could have done more. When he got to the US in 2012, his English was improving quickly, but that stalled and never moved anywhere after ~2014 level. And in hindsight (which one can easily argue is useless), he should have given in to all the bullsht demands from Canelo in 2015. He should have campaigned harder to bodybag JCC Jr, or called out Froch harder. Cotto and Floyd never had any actual interest in getting in the ring with him, which sucks. Hindsight is not fair and is always 20/20, but it's enough to knock him down a peg.

I tend to think most of the legitimate criticism of GGG comes after 2015 - but also so do most of his best fights. JCC went to Haymon because Al dangled a riduculous $30+ mil deal in front of him according to some Mexican press reports at the time... I tend to read this as a power play by Al to deprive HBO of one of it's few possible PPV level fights much as I see his offer to Stevenson in a similar timeframe cos neither of 'em really fit in with his overall strategy of dominating in just a few adjacent divisions and he didn't ever try to do much with either of 'em. I'm guessing Al kinda knew HBO was already reeling by this point and only needed a push.

Froch just retired... don't really think that was much on Golovkin.

And no demands where ever really made by Canelo back in '16 (he only became champ in Nov '15), he kinda made some noise that he wouldn't bend on weight and ultimately said he wouldn't be held to artificial deadlines by the WBC but in the end just abandaoned negotiations citing his legal battle with a former promoter... without - according to Loeffler - ever making any weight demands at all and ultimately not saying it was due to GGGs unreasonable pay demands although this is an often cited reason why the fight didn't happen at that time..

I think Canelo's team just decided they weren't ready at that time, as is, of course their right - and they were probably wise to do so given the outcome of their 2017 fight.

My criticism tends to be more around the fights he wasted whilst hanging out for the Canelo Payday from 2016 onwards, either the pointless ones like your Rolls, Vanes or Wade (manbdo or not), or the good ones he elected not to take to fit around the Canelo schedule - Derevyanchenko in '18 and Saunders. Can't really blame the dude given the kinda money involved, but it doesn't go into my pocket and I'd rather he'd taken thos fights when they were on the table than waiting around to suit Canelo's timetable.
