They put their show on BET, they had rappers perform before their fights. They had artist and movie stars place in the audience, they had their artist tweet their fights, Made music videos of fights.

Roc nation did their part promoting and targeting the black demographic and teh black demographic spoke with their wallets and the verdict is in the black demographic dont really like boxing like that. Not enough to make a business make their business model around them.

Add that with innovative material on social media and I think you have a solid strategy. If you can get a video game, which I highly doubt cuz boxing is so fragmented, that will surely attractive that demographic you stated. Social Media and Reality TV are winning right now, so that's the direction I would go after first.
My Point EXACTLY! It is just the marketing and maintaining a buzz even when you don't have a fight is what you want. I do think Sadly that is one of the best ways to grow a fanbase now

Another great marketing tool is doing Comedy sketches with Popular Instagram Personalities who have MILLIONS of followers for no ***ing reason lol

Adrien Broner gets it, he just doesn't have the skills in the ring to back it up the attention he can drum up but he does know how to market himself and stay relevant when he is not fighting:

The BET show was a mess. Ward was on their once the premier show.

Roc Nation didn't have the roster. Dusty Harrison headlined 2 of the BET shows. Really.

Promoters do not market to the urban black population. Hip hop and rap have been conjoined since the early days of rap

The highest rated urban morning radio show, The Breakfast Club, regularly talk boxing. They've had a lot of boxers on the show, including GGG. Co-host Charlamagne The God is a big boxing fan. Not a casual fan either. He talks boxing all the time on Twitter.

When they show stars in the audience of fights who do you always see? Rappers, black basketball players, and black actors/actresses. Ever been to a Floyd fight in Vegas? What's the main demographic you see? Met a guy who owned 2 stores on the strip in Vegas. He said personally he hates Floyd but when he fights he made a lot of money. He says he stocks up on Ace of Spades, Cristal, Hennessey XO, and other drinks popular in urban areas, marks up the price and can't keep it on the shelf.

Floyd said Arum didn't know how to market him to the urban audience. He left and we know the rest of the story. Floyd saw the money to be made marketing to the urban audience and he went full "Money Mayweather"

Every football player thinks they can be a basketball player. Every basketball player thinks they can be a rapper. Every rapper thinks they can be a basketball player. But all three think they got hands and could box.

Right now I think the Charlos have the highest upside of becoming household names. The next PPV stars. They are talented, handsome, charismatic and culture influencers. If Love & Hip Hop Houston wouldn't have been cancelled before it aired I think they would be a lot bigger than they are now. Thoe Love & Hip Hop shows are some of the highest rated on cable TV.

That's all imma say. Anything else is giving away the game for free. I know managers and promoters read this board so if they want the blueprint they gotta pay.

I disagree. Black people dont jump onnthe bandwagon and root their own on unless

          1. You are a mayweather status fighter already

          2. You are fighting in you're hometown and they happen to live there as well.

          3. You knock everyone out that they put in front of you and they think you are the real deal .

This may bruise some egos, but black people are a high number of casual boxing fans. Always have been . Black people like watching boxing lile they like basketball but not all black people play basketball or box . Its like fantasy football for fat old asians and mexicans .

How many mexicans you see playing football or asians for that matter.

Whites are more attracted mma cause they lack the athleticism to box . Similar to there not being many white running backs or wrs or corners in the nfl.

So in turn blacks really need to travel more and fight better competition more often. Most black boxers dont fight other black boxers often in boxing anymore when they are coming up.

It occasionally happens but its rare. They try to fight old mexicans or latinos and fight old has been euros at the right time. Its rare to see two black prime fighters fight due to egos , pride and scared of taking a loss.

Then there is the most of them have the same manager issue. Im mostly talking about black american boxers.

In turn they would have more support if they fought each other in los angeles , new york, detroit, oakland, atlanta, memphis.

Boxing needs novelty something like 24 second shot clock. I know it may seem far fetched but there has been lots of advancements in Artificial Intelligence field. AI beating people in Go and Poker. How about AI that would learn how to judge fights ( can't be worse than some of the judging we have right now). Couple that with some super light weight sensors on boxers gloves and we got ourselves **** ton of hype around the sport.

They put 2 shows on BET. One was Ward's first comeback fight and Dusty Harrison. They put those shows on BET because of the deal Roc Nation got from BET to put those shows on. That was done out of necessity and because of Jay's relationship with BET. There was never a marketing effort to the black community by Roc Nation. Most don't even know Roc Nation is a boxing promoter. But they know Roc Nation is a sports agent and the athletes they have signed. They also know Jay-Z had part ownership of the Brooklyn Nets and had a deal with the Barclays center. They also know he owns Tidal.

But don't listen to me, a black boxing fan who is adept at marketing. Listen to the Mexican who hasn't seen a black person in person since he got out of prison.

Constantly, constantly, constantly. Every single topic you coming for black people. You come on my page harassing me about **** that has nothing to do with you. No matter how much you try to kiss ass, white people still not gonna accept you. You gotta go back

Black buying power is expected to reach $1.2 trillion this year, and $1.4 trillion by 2020, according to the University of Georgia’s Selig Center for Economic Growth. That is so much combined spending power that it would make Black America the 15th largest economy in the world in terms of Gross Domestic Product, the size of Mexico based on World Bank data. By comparison, in 1990, Black buying power was $320 billion. As the largest consumer group of color, in a nation that is becoming increasingly darker, this trend will only continue to have its impact on the U.S.

I also went through their top 10 ratings for each weight classes and came up with 14 Latino Americans compared to 24 African Americans.

Black boxers are definitely the leaders in American boxing, but to say that every top American fighter is black is completely ignorant.
Who dominates the the traditionally popular weight classes?

                Welter

                Middle

                Heavyweight

You know what I was talking about. Relax

Have you ever heard of Oscar De La Hoya? Name an African American that has won titles in more weight classes. Go on, I'll wait.

I think I clearly acknowledged that African Americans lead boxing in the U.S. To imply that all top American boxers are black is simply laughable when the split is more 65%-35% between African Americans and Latino Americans. But hell, why let the truth get in the way of a good story?

Americans are supporting their own, they're just not paying for it. You see it here in the forums when dudes asking for free streams to boxers they spend 24/7 defending.
